“I've been privileged to have what I consider to be a "climate-adjacent" career. In recent years it has become increasingly apparent that my climate experience was myopic because it came only from the government and nonprofit perspectives and needed to include the rapidly expanding private sector perspective.  I learned about the Climatebase Fellowship during SF Climate Week . I was fortunate to have a solid knowledge base on climate policy and science, so the weekly curriculum sessions were for me a combination of refresher and different perspectives on a familiar subject matter. However, the venture capital and startup piece of the curriculum, consisting of sessions with Climatebase's VC in residence along with numerous perspectives from investors and founders, was nothing short of revelatory.  These were coupled with the opportunity to work with other Fellows on a Capstone Project and other initiatives that took advantage of the incredible human capital resource that was a product of the diverse experiences of the members of the cohort. The relationships forged during the Fellowship may well be Climatebase's most valuable enduring benefit to me. My Capstone team is continuing to develop our concept by refining the product and talking with prospective funders and customers. I'm looking forward to remaining engaged with the Climatebase community.”

“I decided to join the Climatebase Fellowship after moderating an event at San Francisco Climate Week , where I learned about a dynamic Fellowship community with a myriad of opportunities. My goal for joining the Fellowship was to connect with leaders bridging communication and science to propel climate action, a mission in line with my role as Director of Marketing at Boomitra. The Fellowship not only expanded my professional network but also broadened my perspective on creating meaningful change in the climate space. During the Fellowship, Boomitra was awarded Prince William's Earthshot Prize for "Fixing Our Climate.”, a recognition often likened to an environmental Oscar. “Before the Fellowship, I worked on a startup focused on sustainable shopping, giving me some understanding of what makes a product sustainable. However, I was eager to learn more. The Climatebase Fellowship provided a unique opportunity for me to gain education on a broad range of climate domains and I am now much more knowledgeable about climate issues, their impact, and solutions to the climate crisis. I have also built new and valuable connections worldwide. Coming from a technology background, I had begun to look into the impact of software on the environment. I was thrilled to have a chance to collaborate with a group of talented peers from our Cohort on researching the concept of ‘Green Software’ as part of a capstone project, which was encouraged and supported by the Fellowship. We studied the four different areas of impact – Coding, Network Traffic, Compute/Processing, and Storage. Our efforts resulted in a Medium article, a dedicated webpage, and a PDF resource guide packed with information and links to numerous resources. “I was prompted to join Climatebase to improve my knowledge and network within the climate world, and the Fellowship was fantastic in helping me achieve that. As a Co-Founder at a climate-tech startup, the Fellowship was an incredible way to meet people with differing fields of expertise. “My background and expertise are mainly in humanitarian tech, and I was keen to transition into the climate tech space. I applied to join the Climatebase Fellowship to better understand the climate space and directly connect with the climate solutions community. One of the highlights of the Climatebase Fellowship was the opportunity to pursue a Capstone Project, so much so that I carried out two projects focused on Climate Robotics during Cohorts 3 and 4! These Capstone Projects enabled me to accelerate the launch of the Climate Robotics Network, while the Fellowship's expert guest speakers and live sessions enabled me to expand my knowledge of the climate space: the perfect combination! Thanks to these projects, I'm now completing a White Paper on Climate Robotics, drawing extensively on the work done through my capstone project. The Fellowship enabled me to build the credibility I needed to recruit an external Organizing Committee for a Climate Robotics Summit, organized by the Climate Robotics Network.”

“Through the Climatebase Fellowship, I was able to deepen my knowledge of climate science and meet some of the leading organizations in the emerging climate economy. Over 12 weeks, we covered everything from the origins of climate science to the latest nature-based carbon removal solutions. My peers were accomplished professionals who had spent careers at leading companies and organizations, and like me, have now set their sights on addressing the climate crisis. The Fellowship also provided me with a platform and an amazing community of Fellows, enabling me to undertake a Capstone project aimed at helping more homeowners to decarbonize their homes. Looking ahead, I’m using many of the lessons from the Climatebase Fellowship in my work as an advisor and consultant to real estate leaders, helping them improve the health and wellness, energy efficiency, and climate impacts of their property portfolios.”

“My experience was unique because I was fortunate enough to land my first job in the industry (through the Climatebase platform) right before I started Cohort 4 of the Fellowship. Initially planning to enter the Fellowship as a job seeker, I shifted my goals to focus on gaining industry knowledge, networking with others who were just entering the industry, and helping others in making the jump into climate. I learned extensively about the different sectors within climate and elevated my technical understanding of each sector far beyond what I could have achieved on my own. One of my highlights was meeting various cohort members virtually and in person through one-on-one meetings, local meetups, and different networking opportunities. I felt that every person I met offered a unique insight, connection, or discussion that broadened my understanding of the industry and how we can all contribute to climate solutions. The Climatebase Fellowship has aided my professional career by providing me with a foundation to understand and discuss the intersection of various industries and their collective efforts toward decarbonization.”

“I have been passionate about climate change for many years, and this year, I reached an inflection point in my work and was ready to move to a climate role. I joined the Fellowship to learn more about various sub-sectors of climate and to meet others within the space. The most impactful elements for my job search were working on a capstone project focused on nature-based solutions (NBS) and the career-focused sessions, which offered practical tips on interviewing and soft skills. Toward the end of the Fellowship, I accepted a role on the Legal team of the Wildlife Conservation Society, where I will work on conservation finance and other NBS projects worldwide. “I went through a phase of despondency around climate change. But I’ve seen time and again in my life that the best way to overcome a feeling of defeat is to jump into action.
