Job Description

TRISO-X, LLC is seeking a CAD Designer responsible for design and drafting of 3D models and 2D drawings that define various hardware and layouts of equipment, structures, systems, and components to support the projects to which they are assigned. They will coordinate the design, at the direction of responsible engineers, and perform a variety of design/drafting activities, including preparing/updating installation drawings for projects, preparing assembly/manufacturing drawings, and establishing guidelines and procedures for Computer Aided Design (CAD) data management. The role collects all drawings, data, and notes involved in a project and constructs the final version of the construction project — specifying dimensions, codes, production methods, and materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the responsible engineers to develop mechanical/ physical concepts, designs, and processes to create structures, systems, and components (SSCs) related to the project to which they are assigned.

  • Create relevant 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings of various equipment, structures, systems and/or components (e.g., Mechanical Components and Assemblies, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, etc.).

  • Assist in the definition and development of system/component geometric interfaces.

  • Assess models for manufacturability as well as assembly and integration considerations.

  • Create and check manufacturing technical data packs and 2D detail component drawings to ensure fabricated components are produced in accordance with the design specifications.

  • Ensure SSCs are properly designed and integrated into the design of the overall system to meet their component level functions and requirements.

  • Perform a variety of design/drafting activities for the engineering group including preparing and updating manufacturing drawings.

  • Serve as an information source on planning and design of equipment installations: equipment and plant engineering.

  • Maintain notes, design calculations and other documentation (like drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters, and performance guarantees) for future reference.

  • Identify and follow best CAD modelling and drafting practices, communicating them with other team members to ensure the standardization of practices.

  • Engage vendors in the design and manufacturing of defined systems and their related components. Show initiative in suggesting design changes and improvements to the design of components, factoring in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.

  • Collaborate in planning, scheduling, and organization of detailed phases of engineering work.

  • Establish filing guidelines for drawings to maintain up-to-date drawings.

  • Maintain system and model compatibility in X-energy’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.

  • Provide ownership, responsibility, and accountability over technical scope involving the coordination of multiple individual contributors working in a specific area.

  •  Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Minimum Education/Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in drafting, CAD, engineering or related degree from an accredited institution or High School Diploma and 2 years of experience in a role with similar tasks/responsibilities noted above.

  • Typically, five years of experience in a CAD/3D drafter/designer.

  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 (or similar standards) for Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Experience using 3D CAD software (e.g. UG/NX, SolidWorks, PTC Creo/Pro-E, or similar). Must have experience with plant 3D and electrical Autodesk modules.  Experience with P&ID drafting work is needed.

Location: Oak Ridge, TN
Work Site Expectations:  On- Site
Travel Expectations: Less than 10%

Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri
