Summary of the position:
This position is full-time and located on-site in Michigan City, Indiana.
Be able to:
- Test machines indoors and outdoors as needed.
- Wear safety goggles, steel-toed shoes, and an arc flash suit when required.
- Work with high-voltage (up to 575V) systems in an industrial environment as needed.
- Carry tools, a laptop, test equipment and walk 10-15 minutes to the test site and back as needed.
- Read, understand, and effectively respond to emails from customers, the support team, and colleagues.
- Ask questions as necessary.
- Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills in face-to-face interactions.
- Perform extensive Excel work for projects.
- Design electrical circuits and write code using the C programming language or be willing to learn these skills.
- Receive feedback and adjust as needed.
- Read, understand, and apply schematics and datasheets.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Design and develop software for air compression systems using C and C++.
- Create and develop commissioning files using Microsoft Excel.
- Integrate variable speed drives (VSDs), motors, and control systems to meet application requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Service, and Commercial teams on control software and electrical design issues.
Education:
- BS in Computer Engineering with knowledge of electrical circuits or Electrical Engineering with C programming language.
- MUST be U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder due to U.S. Government laws regarding R&D.
Desirable:
- Experience in electrical controls requirements, analysis, design, development, integration, and testing.
- Previous experience with a global manufacturer in the compressor, industrial machinery, or similar industries is highly desirable.
- Proficient in using debugging tools for embedded systems.
- Proven ability to work effectively within software and cross-functional teams, meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously when necessary.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support business needs, with an anticipated travel requirement of less than 5%.
Outcomes:
- Within the first 60 days, develop and demonstrate competency in understanding, troubleshooting, and resolving Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) issues.
- Within the first 90 days, demonstrate proficiency in writing efficient and reliable C code for various models of air compressors.
- Within the first 180 days, show competency in creating and maintaining Excel commissioning files for different models of air compressors.
