By the end of this decade, we have set ourselves an ambitious goal to only work on projects that meet our zero carbon design criteria, a commitment we have called our Zero Carbon Design 2030 goal. We need engineers who share this passion for sustainability and thrive in designing energy efficient buildings and communities.

Our dedicated Critical Systems team play a key role in making mission critical buildings more energy efficient, sustainable and cost effective to operate. Our team are a source of world leading expertise and offer a pro-active and collaborative approach to skill development, and professional excellence.

We work closely with our clients to develop, improve and deploy their standard ‘template’ designs across the world and so have the unique opportunity to influence the future of data centre design. We also work on many bespoke data centre projects.

The Role

The role entails your being very closely involved within the design process and production of design deliverables, managing your immediate team of engineers.  You will monitor budgets and programme, checking designs and communicating with the wider project and client team.

You will use your existing expertise, enthusiasm and dedication to manage, motivate and inspire your colleagues, including helping to develop less experienced engineers.

You will support, and be supported by, senior staff within the team.

The Skills

A Chartered Engineer, educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (MEng or BEng), you have gained significant experience in an electrical engineering role within the critical systems / data centres.  Equivalent electrical engineering design skills gained in other fields may be considered.

In your most recent position, you have consistently demonstrated your ability to manage small to medium-scale projects and small teams of engineers to deliver to, and exceed, client expectations.

You have proven ability in producing electrical designs, including schematic diagrams, layouts, calculations, preparing specifications and project reports, carrying out site inspections and surveys, detail design development as well as contributing to project meetings.  Through this experience, you will support your project teams to deliver excellent electrical designs.

Essential characteristics for the successful candidate include:

  • the ability to take ownership of tasks
  • the capacity to think around problems and help guide the team towards solutions
  • to recognise the importance of collaboration in a multi-disciplinary design environment
