Argonne National Laboratory
Postdoctoral Appointee – Membrane Scientist for Electrodialysis
2 months ago
About the Job
The Applied Materials Division (AMD) at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a postdoctoral appointee for assessing the performance and durability of polymeric ion-exchange membranes used in electrodialysis for lithium capture from recycled streams and processed ores. The individual will contribute to the Lab’s broader effort in membranes for electrochemical processes, battery recycling, and securing critical minerals.
The candidate will be expected to perform chemical, electrochemical, and mechanical characterization of ion-exchange membranes used in electrodialysis processes. The candidate will perform membrane characterization studies, such as ionic conductivity and crossover measurements, in addition to using other analytical methods, such as NMR and x-ray metrology to understand membrane structure and chemical durability. The candidate is expected to assemble ion-exchange membranes in electrodialysis stacks and to perform electrodialysis experiments with lithium-containing solutions and the ability to analyze electrodialysis data.
Position Requirements
Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (typically completed within the last 0-5 years) in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, and/or, or similar degrees.
Knowledge in electrochemistry and analytical chemistry.
The ability to work collaboratively with teams and individuals in other divisions, laboratories, and companies.
Effective communication skills – both written and oral.
Ability to present research at technical meetings and publish results in peer reviewed journal articles.
Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, and accessible environment where all can thrive.
