Position Specific Description

The Principal Accountant will be responsible for managing special projects, assisting in contract review, establishing processes and policies, performing reporting analytics, conducting accounting research, preparing accounting memos, and assisting in preparing journal entries and month-end close activities.

 

The position will also serve as an accounting advisor supporting FPL Energy Services (FPLES) residential and commercial business lines and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, demonstrate the ability to manage projects independently with minimal direction, possess proficiency in accounting research and recommendation provision, be willing to delve into details when necessary, and have the ability to foster productive working relationships across the organization in a positive and collaborative manner.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Conducting accounting research and accounting memos
  • Managing special projects
  • Assisting in contract review
  • Establishing processes and policies
  • Preparation of journal entries in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and quarterly internal financial reports and analytics
  • Adhere to FPLES accounting processes and internal controls
  • Review/prepare quarterly inputs for the 10K/10Q submission
  • Oversight of accounting for specific FPLES general ledger accounts across multiple reporting entities
  • Follows through on resolving accounting matters as they arise, including researching, analyzing and reporting on issues that affect the company, making recommendations for solutions, and implementing determined courses of action
  • Support commercial and residential business lines by providing accurate and timely accounting conclusions in support of current and new product initiatives
  • Mentors and coaches other team members in their development
  • Prepares ad hoc analyses and reports as needed
  • Project management skills inclusive of setting timelines/project plan, establishing assignments/priorities, and delivering according to project plan.
     

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop accounting policy through analysis of GAAP and business practices. Ensures accounting treatment is practical, cost-beneficial and accurately portrays the economic substance of business transactions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature
•   Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management
•   Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters
•   Ensures consistent application of accounting policies
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business
•  Experience: 6+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
•  Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
