Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full Time Position.
The Senior Specialist, Internal Audit position plays a crucial role in providing independent and objective assurance to the Audit Committee and Management on the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.
This role encompasses leading and executing risk-based audits across various areas of the business, including generation facilities, key operational areas, and financial reporting, while ensuring compliance with CSOX/SOX.
Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, the Senior Specialist will effectively communicate audit findings and recommendations to the Audit Committee and Management, contributing to informed decision-making. The work performed directly contributes to the company's success by strengthening risk management, internal controls, and compliance with CSOX/SOX requirements, ultimately helping Capital Power achieve its strategic objectives.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Accountable for providing independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of Capital Power's risk management and control framework.
- Safeguarding company assets, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting a culture of ethical conduct and accountability.
- Delivering independent and objective assessments of risks and controls, free from influence and ensuring transparency.
- Proactively identifying control gaps, recommending enhancements, and driving positive change across the organization.
- Protecting Capital Power from financial loss, fraud, and reputational damage by identifying and mitigating risks.
- Upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct and compliance with regulations, including CSOX/SOX.
- Providing clear and concise communication of audit findings and recommendations to the Audit Committee and management
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- Completed Bachelor's degree in a Statistical/Data Analysis, Finance, Accounting, or other related fields.
- Education equivalency may be considered.
- Professional Certifications:
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) or a recognized internal audit designation (CIA)
- Certifications in areas such as IT audit (CISA, CISSP), data analytics in Internal Audit, and risk management are also valuable.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive audit experience, preferably with exposure to publicly listed companies with demonstrated experience in leading audit engagements and managing projects.
- Working knowledge of CSOX and SOX for US listings in considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the power generation industry or commodity trading is considered significant asset.
Technical Skills:
- Regulatory compliance (e.g., CSOX/SOX, industry-specific regulations).
- Operational processes and technologies, with an emphasis on identifying and evaluating risks and controls related to operational efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Risk management, internal controls, and auditing methodologies.
- Expertise in IT governance, risk management, controls, cybersecurity, and audit procedures, including those related to emerging technologies.
- Data analytics techniques in Int to enhance audit procedures to identify trends and anomalies and providing insightful reporting to management.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
