Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Fate Specialist for a Managing Scientist role in our Chemical Regulation & Food Safety Practice in Washington, DC. Other locations may be considered. In this role, you will work as part of a team of other consultants providing a high-level of project management, regulatory, and technical expertiste with specific experience related to environmental fate and behavior, metabolism, and analytical chemistry. This person will have opportunities to collaborate with other Exponent practice areas.

 

You will be responsible for

  • Providing in-depth and insightful interpretation of the environmental fate and behavior, and, if possible, plant and livestock metabolism as well as chemistry, study results including factors that affect the results and the ability to strategize and determine how these results may impact regulatory strategies and decision making
  • Placing and monitoring environmental fate and behavior studies according to EPA test guidelines
  • Evaluating and assessing EPA, CA DPR, and other regulatory authorities’ technical reviews
  • Working with environmental modelers to determine appropriate environmental fate data and associated inputs for use in ecological risk assessments.
  • Developing client relationships and ability to build business
  • Working in and contributing to a team environment
  • Leading teams on complex and challenging projects

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in the Sciences
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of related post-graduate experience, preferably consulting experience but will consider all related post-graduate experiences
  • Understanding of EPA regulatory guidelines and policies, particularly with respect to environmental fate and behavior studies needed for evaluating pesticides under FIFRA (required) and industrial chemicals under TSCA, and other regulated compounds
  • Providing insight into plant and livestock metabolism is not required but would be valuable
  • Knowledge of OECD guidelines is not required, but would be advantageous
  • An outstanding reputation in the areas of integrity, responsiveness, and technical expertise
  • Project management experience including tracking of milestones and deliverables
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required
  • Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills
  • Must be detail oriented, able to work independently as well as in a team, and manage time effectively
  • Strong ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects with competing deadlines

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process.

Salary Range

USD $130,000.00 - USD $176,800.00 /Yr.
