About the Job

Hyliion is committed to creating innovative solutions that enable clean, flexible and affordable electricity production. The Company’s primary focus is to develop distributed power generators that can operate on various fuel sources to future-proof against an ever-changing energy economy.

Job Purpose

The Project Engineer will serve as a critical link between engineering, commercial and customer engineering and project teams to deliver KARNO™ Power Module solutions across industrial, commercial, and distributed energy applications. This role will be responsible for executing the engineering and integration of the KARNO Power Module Solution and associated balance of plant components —including power conversion, fuel handling systems, and controls—throughout the full project lifecycle from initial scope to commissioning.

This position supports both internal teams and external partners by ensuring timely delivery, technical compliance, and seamless integration of the KARNO Power Modules into customer facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional project execution for KARNO Power Module installations, covering site structural, mechanical, electrical, thermal, and controls engineering aspects.
  • Manage site-specific design and deployment of full Balance of Plant (BOP) systems, including:
    • Power electronics (inverters, converters, grid-tie components)
    • Electrical interfaces and switchgear
    • Fuel handling systems
    • Controls and monitoring systems
  • Collaborate with Applications Engineering to finalize project scopes, proposals, and customer requirements.
  • Develop and review engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and site installation plans.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors for auxiliary equipment and subcontractor installation scopes.
  • Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) processes, including checklists, troubleshooting, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Provide on-site and remote commissioning support and troubleshooting for KARNO deployments.
  • Ensure system installations meet regulatory, safety, and environmental standards (e.g., NFPA, NEC, UL, EPA, CARB).
  • Maintain strong relationships with customer engineering teams and act as a technical point of contact for project execution.
  • Document lessons learned, change orders, and continuous improvement feedback to inform future product enhancements.
  • Contribute to the development of standard project templates, procedures, and knowledgebase content.
