Safety Clerk
 
The Safety Clerk will spend a significant amount of time working in an office environment in support of the Safety Team and will be performing administrative and office duties of a complex and challenging nature. This position is based in insert location in supporting the insert contract name.

Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide regular reports to local management staff of safety department efforts, claims status, training efforts, accident history, Workers' Compensation claims status, and other required information.
  • Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
  • Ensures accurate completion of all required paperwork through audits and reconciliation processes.
  • Conduct daily informal safety and health inspections.
  • Assist the Safety and Training Manager in conducting regular and random audits of employee training files and vehicle maintenance files and conduct regular facility safety audits ensuring compliance with various oversight agency (such as OSHA and EPA) regulations and related corporate standards/policies.
  • Assist with the successful completion of all related audits.
  • Assist with the administration and management of credential checks and upcoming expirations.
  • Ensure appropriate collection of information, documentation of events, and reporting per company policy for collisions and incidents, risky behavior events or other safety concerns.
  • Maintain safety evaluation logs, files and tracking of safety reports.
  • Assist the Safety Manager in working with corporate claims staff to ensure that all liability and Workers' Compensation claims are handled promptly and effectively and to reduce financial liability as well as recoup on all claims subject to subrogation.
  • Assist the Safety Manager in the complete and accurate documentation of safety activities and the accurate completion of all related records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Some college preferred.
  • 3 years office experience required.
  • 2-3 working in a transportation environment with 19(A) experience preferred.
  • Excellent database, data analytic, word processing, spreadsheet, and other industry, commercial, and specialized software and application knowledge, skills, and competencies.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, priority setting, and decision-making skills required.
  • Advanced conflict resolution skills required. 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Must be flexible, must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • Must be able to work as a member of the team.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
Physical Requirements: 
 
  • 80% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.
  • 20% of work is accomplished outside of the facility.
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
  • Must be able to travel for company training, meeting or support missions.
