Status: Full-Time, Year-Round
Reports to: Facilities & Maintenance Manager     
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Wage: $24 per hour, Depending on Experience  


The maintenance team plays an integral role in the success of AWCC by ensuring the facility is safe for guests and employees alike. Daily checks to make sure equipment is running properly, animal habitats are secure, pedestrian space is free of any hazards, buildings are stable, and grounds are maintained are vital to our operation.

Our maintenance team must have a positive, professional, and upbeat personality with a desire to maintain high safety standards. We are looking for a dependable, cheerful team player. 


Under the direction of AWCC’s Facilities & Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician position is one where responsibilities and duties can change daily. In addition to needing to complete regular assignments, multi-tasking and adapting to change are critical. Ideal candidates would arrive on time for scheduled shifts, happily greet and attend to customers, perform general maintenance of mechanical items, regular maintenance of buildings, vehicles, snow removal, road grading, assists with tidal variations, operates equipment in a safe manner, routine carpentry, painting, fence building, minor electrical, plumbing, and occasional custodial duties.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes a safe working environment, adheres to OSHA guidelines
  • Must be comfortable working in and around large ungulate wildlife. Assists in helping the animal care staff with husbandry care for large game.
  • Practice safe working habits including bending and lifting appropriately to avoid injury, reporting hazards, appropriate use of cleaning chemicals and working to minimize tripping hazards
  • Fencing and enclosure maintenance tasks as required
  • Post hole digging, safe operation with basic hand tools
  • Safe and effective power tool operation including drills, saws, and chain saws
  • Ability to drive medium to larger sized equipment, including a farm tractor and 410 backhoe tractor.
  • Seasonal adaptability; snow removal and other tasks associated
  • Assistance with road, vehicle, building, fencing, painting, plumbing and custodial job duties and tasks
  • Ability to work on a small team in a fast paced environment with varying duties on a daily basis
  • Ability to take direction as well as work independently
  • Other duties as assigned. 


QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Willingness to support other departments as necessary
  • Excellent communication, guest service and time management skills.
  • Able to organize, plan for and manage assigned workload.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and multi-tasking, guest-oriented environment.
  • A team player, yet able to work independently.
  • Ability to listen, learn, understand, and follow instructions and directions.
  • Must possess positive attitude and respectful attitude.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme wind, temperature, rain, and winter conditions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Available to work varying shifts/hours based on business need, including weekends and holidays.
  • Schedule will vary based on operational needs to include weekends, holidays, early morning, evenings.
  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must provide proof of Tetanus Vaccination.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Associate Degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school
    • 2+ years experience in equivalent trade positions if no degree (plumbing, heating, construction, electrical, mechanical, welding, etc.)
  • Experience in a commercial, institutional, or industrial setting
  • A basic knowledge of the area and its surroundings
  • Bilingual or Multilingual skills ideal, but not required

BENEFITS

  • $24/hour pay rate, DOE
  • 12 paid holidays including the employee’s birthday, New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.

  • Paid Time Off benefits, up to two (2) weeks in first year, more as tenure of service continues
  • Option to select 403-b retirement, matching 5% after 1 year of service  
  • Housing available on-site; bunkhouse and bunkbed style housing.
