AECOM is seeking a motivated, technically experienced team leader to serve as Mechanical Engineering Principal based in Houston or Dallas, TX. The ideal candidate will have a passion for leading technically proficient teams, designing creative solutions, mentoring mid-level and junior staff, and achieving technical excellence on exciting and complex projects.

The Mechanical Department Manager should be capable of leading and developing teams to complete both small and large projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients is required. Candidate must be well organized, be able to demonstrate critical thinking and can quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution.

As the Mechanical Engineering Principal, your responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as a Discipline Leader for our Texas team and provide mentorship to an experienced group of engineers;
  • Lead as Subject Matter Expert for projects including Advanced Manufacturing, Laboratories, Logistics, Corporate Commercial, Government and Academic, Utility Plant and campus distribution
  • Work as part of a team in developing regional business plans to assist with strategic growth forecasting;
  • Collaborate with Regional Engineering leadership & local Studio leads to manage the Engineering staff including staffing, goal setting, establishing training and developing opportunities as well as performance management;
  • Develop business opportunities regionally and nationally, as well as meet with clients;
  • Establish schedules and project documentation;
  • Oversee engineering management teams and provide direction as needed in the following areas: detailed schematic design, modeling and analysis of systems for multiple ongoing projects through all phases including programming, schematic, design development, constructions documents, construction administration and project close-out;
  • Travel to project sites for review of constructability, review of plan and project details, meeting with clients and addressing contractor and/or vendor issues.
  • Complete HVAC designs for projects of all sizes
  • Make major design recommendations and design decisions with little input from senior staff
  • Plan the design work of the mechanical team and delegate assignments to team members
  • Establish staff ‘s goals and annually review staff and conduct Annual Performance Reviews; recommend salary increases
  • Act as an adviser and review documents prepared by mechanical team members; performing technical quality reviews and being responsible for the overall Department quality and profitability
  • Develop fee estimates, assist with proposal preparation, and participate in client presentations
  • Stay current with the latest design requirements, techniques, tools, and principles
