The Mission
Munich-based OroraTech is developing a constellation of nano-satellites with thermal infrared cameras as payload for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings and many other applications, as well as its own microsatellite platform for in-house and customer missions. After our first three Missions FOREST-1-3, as well as our first full orbital plane of eight satellites OTC-P1 (Launch End of March 2025), we currently work towards the second orbital plane, which includes four satellites built and operated completely in-house under the Hellenic Fire-Satellite Program from the European Space Agency. 

About your Role

We are seeking a technically strong and systems-oriented Payload Specialist to own the knowledge and performance understanding of our spaceborne payloads. This is a central role in the engineering team, you are the go-to expert on payload design, guiding current and future missions with a deep understanding of our system and how it interacts with the satellite platform.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Payload Engineering, mission teams, and external partners to ensure every decision aligns with technical requirements and long-term goals.

What you’ll be doing
  • Primary knowledge holder:  Own a deep, system-level understanding of the payload design and its performance envelope across mission phases.

  • Performance Analysis: Model and analyze payload performance to assess mission suitability.

  • System Collaboration: Work with mission and system engineers to align payload capabilities with satellite and mission needs.

  • Design Evolution: Support future payload concepts based on lessons learned and mission feedback.

Documentation & Review: Maintain clear records of payload design logic and contribute to technical reviews. Relevant Skills
  • Master’s degree in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or any related technical field.

  • Strong background in systems engineering.

  • More than three years of industry experience in space-related technologies, best with emphasis on spaceborne sensors or optical payloads.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills, experience working with external stakeholders such as ESA or DLR.

  • Proven ability to analyze and model sensor performance in mission contexts (e.g. using Python).
