Position Overview 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Lab Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the development of membrane based gas separation technology.  Under the supervision of senior scientists and engineers, the primary role of the Membrane Testing Lab Technician will be the fabrication, testing and data entry of  membrane test devices.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with standard gas handling procedures and equipment (pressure regulators, flowmeters, valves, and fittings).   The use of routine laboratory equipment such as  fume hoods, balances, stir plates and fume hoods will be required for test device fabrication and testing. Broader involvement in the development is anticipated.  This position requires attention to detail, strong technical skills, versatility,  adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced scientific team.

What you’ll be doing 

Under the guidance of senior scientists or engineers.  The Membrane Testing Lab  Technician will:

  • Operate routine laboratory equipment as well as specialized equipment for the membrane performance evaluation 

  • Record and document experimental data accurately, ensuring compliance with quality control standards.

  • Fabricate membrane test devices and prototypes

  • Maintain an updated inventory of parts used for membrane fabrication and testing

  • Place purchase requests for materials when stock reaches reorder levels

  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of membranes and prototypes

  • Prepare, measure, and mix chemical solutions according to precise protocols.

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.

  • When necessary, assist and support  off-site pilot testing 

  • Infrequent travel of multi-day duration to support off-site testing 

  • Adhere strictly to safety regulations and laboratory procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Support R&D and Pilot Testing  initiatives by providing technical assistance and input.

What we’re looking for 

  • This position requires a AA degree or higher. Attention to detail, accuracy, thoroughness and the ability to adhere  to standard operating procedures are critical. The ability to identify problems and solve problems.  Basic computer skills.   A background in membranes is preferred but not required.

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment

  • Experience in gas handling and associated equipment is preferred

  • Experience in  an industrial plant setting  is desired but not required

  • Hands-on experience with basic tools (wrenches, tube cutters, calipers, etc) is highly valued

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Enthusiasm for innovation and technology development.

  • Ability to intermittently lift up to 20 kg
