The ICCT seeks a self-motivated and committed Associate Researcher to contribute to a wide range of work on maritime emissions, alternative fuels, and decarbonisation strategies for the shipping sector, specifically in India. Representative work can be found on ICCT's Maritime Shipping page 


 

This is a full-time position based in ICCT’s New Delhi office and will report to the Marine Program Director  


 

You Will: 

  • Conduct research on India’s goals and policies for decarbonising maritime shipping and ports. 
  • Analyze energy use and emissions from domestic and international shipping in India. 
  • Assess energy use and emissions from port activities. 
  • Compare policy alternatives and develop recommendations to decarbonise maritime shipping and reduce air pollution. 
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders, including Indian policymakers. 
  • Collaborate with ICCT staff in other regions on emerging projects, including those related to IMO initiatives, as needed. 
  • Help organize outreach activities such as briefings, meetings, and workshops  
  • Engage with external stakeholders 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

You Have: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree
    in engineering, transportation, chemistry, biology, physics, economics, or related field;
     
  • Demonstrated interest in maritime shipping, climate change, air quality, energy, environment, or related topics; familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in the shipping sector preferred; 
  • Excellent and demonstrated quantitative, analytical, and research skills; with proven experience in emissions modeling and preferred additional expertise in economic modeling and analysis;  
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal, plus reading and writing proficiency in a second language strongly preferred;  
  • Superior proficiency with MS Office and other research software; Programming experience with Python or other similar software; and  
  • Great organization and collaboration skills, combined with flexibility and a positive attitude 

To be successful in our environment, you must be intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work effectively with people from across the globe. You must be able to connect research to policy and translate technical information to stakeholders. This position will be based in New Delhi. Some domestic (within India) and international travel may be required.
