AIM Roads is an established subsidiary division of Global Acciona Road Maintenance group. With the main focus on road seasonal maintenance and road, bridge infrastructure, the position will work under the direct reporting to AIM Roads Health and Safety Manager and functional reporting to the Corporate Director of Health, Safety, Environment Quality and Sustainability (HSEQS).

Job Description

The primary objective of the HS Advisor is to work alongside the HS and Operations team to promote the company’s safety culture and initiatives through continuous field presence. In this role you will be continuously working with the field operations to coach, train, and mentor around the company’s expectations of HS.

Required Skills and Competencies

Responsibilities

  • Majority of time spent in the field, job to job assessing the HS performance and identifying gaps
  • Assist/Coach employees on day-to-day safety functions, Safety meetings, Hazard Checks, Hazard ID’s, Make sure everyone is following the HSE basics
  • Verify that workers and operators have completed necessary training and have competency assessments were required.
  • Assist with incident investigations
  • Work with HSE Superintendent to assess and develop procedures, SOP’s, competency road maps, etc.
  • HS/Housekeeping audits, make sure workers are following company standards with equipment, pickups, etc.
  • HS documentation, ensure workers and sueprvisors are completing all necessary documentation on a daily basis -Equipment Inspections, Hazard ID’s ,Near Miss, Etc.
  • Conduct and complete field inspections along with weekly reports
  • Work with the Operations team and communicate observations from the field
  • Assist with refusal of unsafe work, near miss and incident investigations.
  • Other health and safety duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Above average analytical and organizational skills needed to complete reports and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a large and complex network.
  • Demonstrated good leadership, supervision, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are essential.
  • Road construction/maintenance experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s license (class 5) and a positive driving record.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act, WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Must be physically fit, prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Exceptional communication, listening and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge and application of the BC Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Working knowledge of Certificate of Recognition and ISO45001 an asset.
  • Working knowledge of SiteDocs or similar application is an asset.

Special Conditions

  • Individuals may be required to travel within the Okanagan region and elsewhere as directed.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Ministry of Transport & Infrastructure (MoTI) specifications
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate and/or Diploma.
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Certification.
  • Holder of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or is working towards the designation.
  • 2-5 years construction and road maintenance industry experience in a supervisory position.
  • 5 years practical health and safety experience.
  • Traffic Control Management (Traffic Control Person – TCP) with current certification from a recognized provider is an asset.
  • WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Attendant Level 2 or 3, or currently working towards the certificate.
  • ISO 45001 Internal Auditor Certification is an asset, but not a requirements, is an asset.
