About the Job
At Klim, we’re creating a joint movement with farmers and businesses to make regenerative agriculture scalable and impactful. As a Berlin-based AgriTech start-up, we’re empowering farmers to restore soil, boost biodiversity, and capture carbon—all while earning revenue through our platform.
Backed by $22 million in Series A funding, we’re expanding globally, partnering with major food industry leaders like Nestlé and Kaufland to help them reduce emissions along their supply chains, while making them more resilient and profitable at the same time. Since 2020, we’ve supported 4,000 farmers, covering 800,000 hectares (5% of Germany’s farmland!) and we are now the number 1 provider for Scope 3 solutions in Europe!
If you’re passionate about building a sustainable food system and driving real climate impact, join us and help create a healthier planet!
Your mission:
As CTO at Klim, you will be the strategic and technical leader driving our technology vision, ensuring that our platform is high-performing, resilient, and ready to scale. You will lead the engineering organisation to deliver robust software systems while embedding data capabilities deeply into our products and infrastructure.
You’ll work closely with the CEO and VP Product to translate ambitious business goals into scalable architecture, actionable technology roadmaps, and high-performing teams. In close cooperation with our Head of Data, you will ensure that our architecture, engineering practices, and technology choices empower data to become a key lever of customer value, from foundational infrastructure to real-time services and data-enriched applications.
Your priorities will include building the team, structure, and systems needed to turn bold product ideas into reality, while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on ensuring technology becomes an enabler, supporting fast product iteration today and sustained innovation tomorrow. Your leadership will shape a technology organisation that delivers impact at scale.
Your responsibilities:
Strategic Technology Leadership: Define and execute a long-term technology vision that aligns with Klim’s vision and mission, while prioritizing short-term wins to accelerate product development and market impact.
Engineering Team Growth: Scale our engineering team for impact, fostering a high-performance, values-driven culture. Recruit, mentor, and inspire engineers to achieve their best and grow as individuals.
Scalable Systems: Design and evolve a scalable, maintainable service-oriented architecture that delivers flexibility, independent scaling, and high performance, supporting our rapid business growth and product innovation.
Data Product & Data Function Leadership: Put data at the core of our platform by building data products and leading data teams. Drive the development of robust data pipelines, analytics, and machine learning capabilities to transform raw data into actionable insights and customer value.
Best Practices & Technical Excellence: Champion engineering best practices, including CI/CD, code quality, security, and performance optimisation. Reduce tech debt and foster a culture of accountability, autonomy, and continuous learning.
External Representation: Represent Klim’s technical vision to partners, customers, and investors as needed.
Your profile:
Experienced technology leader with a proven track record as CTO or in a similar executive role, ideally in high-growth, mission-driven environments.
Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision and short-term execution (including rapid prototyping), anticipating industry trends and aligning technology with business goals.
Demonstrated experience scaling an engineering team and building a collaborative, high-performing, and purpose-driven culture.
Deep expertise in designing and implementing scalable, flexible, and maintainable microservices architectures, with a focus on independent service scaling, performance, and fault tolerance.
Effective communicator and team-first leader, able to bridge technical and business needs, and inspire cross-functional teams toward shared goals.
Committed to lean, agile, and data-informed product development, with experience in measurable engineering performance practices.
Strong background in building data products and leading data functions, with hands-on experience in ML powered data products, data pipelines and analytics.
Fluent in modern backend and frontend technologies, cloud architectures (AWS, GCP), and data solutions (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
Bonus: Experience in climate tech, carbon markets, or environmental data; R&D in scientific or simulation-heavy domains; experience with international expansion.
Your benefits:
Opportunity: Be part of our journey from the very beginning, working on an equal footing with the leadership team to build a new company.
Impact: Make a daily and active contribution to combating climate change, promoting consumer education, and fostering fair conditions for our climate-conscious farmers.
Autonomy: Take ownership of your projects and enjoy a high degree of creative freedom.
Competitive package: Receive a competitive salary and for full time, permanent employees, have the opportunity to participate in our VSOP program.
Flexible work model: At Klim, we foster a flexible, hybrid work approach and facilitate remote work (within the EU). It is advantageous for this role if you live in Berlin or can be present in our office regularly.
Additional benefits for full time, permanent employees: We offer membership in the Urban Sports Club or subsidisation of the Deutschlandticket, a company pension scheme, plus team lunches (if based in Berlin) and regular team events.
At Klim, we believe that a thriving workplace is built on the diverse backgrounds, talents, and perspectives of our team. We grow stronger together by embracing and building on each individual’s unique strengths.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. All hiring and personnel decisions are made solely based on qualifications, performance, and the needs of the company—ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all.
If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. You might be the perfect fit for our team in ways you don’t yet realise!
