About the Job
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the root cause analysis of harness and cable related field failures using data from diagnostics, and hands-on testing.
- Redesign or re-engineer components, connectors, routing schemes, or retention strategies to eliminate failures, reduce costs, or improve serviceability.
- Work closely with design engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure that changes are thoroughly tested and validated with short feedback cycles.
- Collaborate with NPI, manufacturing quality, and supply chain teams to ensure solutions are optimized for production, vendor capabilities, and field service.
- Predict and prevent failure modes by applying deep understanding of mechanical/electrical system interactions, tolerance stack-ups, and real-world use conditions.
- Implement feedback loops from field issues into design standards and engineering processes to continuously improve product quality and reduce recurrence.
- Create and manage internal improvement systems that embed learnings into manufacturing process flow and future design development efforts.
- Support development of service tooling, testing fixtures, or diagnostic aids as needed for improved deployment and serviceability.
- Travel to HQ in Menlo Park, CA required once per quarter
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field
- Senior Level: BS + 6 years, or MS + 5 years in industry roles focused on electrical hardware and systems
- Hands-on experience with cable and harness systems, including routing, strain relief, shielding, termination, and connector selection
- Proven ability to use data-driven root cause analysis to solve complex, cross-functional design issues
- Experience addressing and resolving field and production issues.
- Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and quality system tools (PFMEA, 8D, CAPA, etc.)
- Deep understanding of tolerance stack-ups and use of CMMs in inspection processes.
- Familiar with manufacturing methods including of the following: crimping, potting, stamping, sheet metal, hydroforming, welding, machining, and fabrication.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or comparable CAD package; PDM experience preferred
- Experience with structural FEA and/or electrical system simulation tools is a plus

About the Company

Mainspring Energy

At Mainspring we believe the fastest path to the net-zero carbon grid is vastly increasing the amount of solar and wind power while building a supporting clean energy system that ensures affordability and multi-day, cross-season resilience. Getting there requires flexible, scalable, local technologies that can adapt to the shifting grid landscape – including the transition from natural gas to renewable fuels like biogas, green ammonia, and green hydrogen.

The Mainspring Linear Generator delivers an unmatched level of flexibility for the transition ahead. It’s local so you can site where power is needed, it’s dispatchable so you can ramp up and down to complement renewables, and it’s fuel-flexible so you can operate on the cleanest fuels available today and in the future. Our products are already at work at Fortune 500 customer sites, accelerating the arrival of the net-zero carbon grid.
