Job Description

  

Job Summary:

The Cryocooler Mechanical Design Engineer works in project teams to provide a range of mechanical engineering expertise designing systems, parts and assemblies related to infrared sensors. Immediate needs are for a candidate experienced with design, testing and evaluation of Stirling cycle cryogenic coolers. This position is responsible for the mechanical design process including design, analysis, DFM, testing, failure analysis, design iterations, documentation, production support and continuous improvements. This position includes involvement in prototyping and interfacing with scientific, electrical and manufacturing teams to develop sophisticated technology and innovative new products.

Primary job duties include:

  • Lead and/or support the end-to-end design, development, fabrication, and testing of cryogenic coolers—from initial concept and requirements definition through detailed design, prototyping, and validation, to full-scale production.
  • Lead and/or support the design and development of electromechanical systems – perform data acquisition, diagnostics, and performance troubleshooting in the context of cryogenic coolers.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience with design, building and testing of Stirling cycle cryogenic coolers
    • Responsibilities include CAD design, trade studies, analysis, design reviews, requirements traceability, COGS tracking, material selection, engineering drawings, supplier selection, DFM reviews, prototype development, sub-assembly design, feasibility studies, design verification testing, life testing, failure analysis, quality control, continuous improvement
  • Design and build of electromechanical systems for -data acquisition, troubleshooting and development
    • Actuators, Sensors, Controllers, Power Supplies, Motors, etc
    • Labview and/or C# a plus
  • Thermal, fluid, electromagnetic and structural analysis using simulation software is a plus
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks required; experience with PDM tools a plus.
  • Working knowledge and practical/hands on experience with evaluation, assembly and testing of hardware (thermal instrumentation, strain gauges, metrology (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators), etc).
  • Experience directing and working with production to support builds and develop build processes.
  • Experience in 2D drawings creation and GD&T.
  • BSME/MSME required from an accredited institution.
  • Proficient with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.
  • Interface with suppliers during product development to expedite and coordinate part deliveries and resolve design issues with suppliers.
  • Provide ongoing engineering support for production.
  • Create technical documentation such as application notes, test documentation, FAQs, user guides, and product specifications in support of TeledyneFLIR’s OEM products
  •  Identifies, analyzes, and resolves complex problems affecting our OEM products including various production related issues, design issues, and validation efforts.
  • Provide data analysis, reports, and feedback within engineering as requested.
  • Support assembly, testing and development activities for the OEM products group
  • Support for the production line including yield improvements, process improvements and various efficiencies for our OEM&E products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High energy, proactive orientation; comfortable in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Some domestic travel to customer sites and to test ranges may be required (5%).
  • Must be a US Citizen or have Permanent Resident Status

  

Salary Range:

$90,800.00-$121,100.000
