Who We Are Looking For:
 
We are growing!  Due to this growth, we have an opening for an Assistant Area Manager, focused on Water and Wastewater treatment projects in our Operations & Management (O&M) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) in the Mid-Atlantic region from New Jersey to Virginia. This unit is responsible for the contract operations and management of water and wastewater treatment facilities, reclaimed water distribution facilities, and full public works for both municipal and industrial clients across the United States.  In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and oversight of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water projects in the mid-Atlantic region of the US.  In this role, you will work with Plant Managers, Operations Specialists, Technology and SCADA support to address needs and challenges and work with our consulting and corporate services teams to help provide support to your projects.

This role will require frequent travel within the Mid-Atlantic region between New Jersey to Virginia.
 
What You Will Be Doing at Woodard & Curran:
 
In this role, you will plan, direct, and coordinate activities of multiple projects and client representatives to ensure that our contracted scope of work and expectations are accomplished within prescribed timeframes and funding parameters and with minimal environmental impacts. You will also be responsible for managing the growth and development of assigned managers and staff and are ultimately responsible for ensuring that Clients and regulatory agencies are satisfied with all work product and efforts at facilities under your supervision.


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Involvement in project proposals or plans to determine time frames, funding sources and limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, resource allocations and environmental impacts.
  • Assist Business Development in the pursuit of new projects through networking, leads and involvement in a variety of municipal and industry related associations.
  • Develop a basic understanding of budgeting and financial performance for the projects that you manage.
  • Work with Area Managers and Operations Leader to establish and manage communications with the clients, regulators, and other project shareholders. This includes monthly and annual reporting, budgeting, etc. 
  • Participation in the recruitment of staff for facility positions while effectively mentoring and managing their professional growth, development opportunities, and compensation.
  • Directing and coordinating activities of project personnel to ensure project responsibilities are met and assigned tasks progress on schedule, within prescribed budget and within compliance guidelines. Candidate will also review and/or prepare acceptable communications status reports that delineate to the Client and regulatory agencies the progress of schedules and/or budgets.
  • Working with project and support personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with the external Client, regulatory agencies and internal company support personnel and departments.  This will require effective communication through written reports and public speaking engagements.
  • Travel to assigned projects for effective management and support of the project, project personnel, emergency response and recovery efforts and client communications at the direction of the Area Manager and East Region Operations Manager.
  • Comply with all company Health and Safety procedures and policies and assist with the execution and completion of any outstanding safety audits.

    You will be responsible for ensuring the overall health and safety of all assigned employees by coordinating with the Plant Managers and Woodard & Curran’s Health & Safety Manager, creating a safe workplace environment as well as an emergency procedures program. You will need to demonstrate an ability to proactively control project costs and provide insight to solutions for troubled financial situations. You will also ensure that the company’s image as a leader in the industry is protected and presented at all levels at the facility, including on-site personnel, facility grounds, and company-owned or leased vehicles and other assets within our contracted responsibility. Comfort with public relations/public speaking is important in this role.
     
    You will be responsible for direct supervision of Plant Manager(s) and in this role, you will originate actions and influence events as they pertain to those managers or others under your supervision. You will be called on to set appropriate examples regarding work ethic, motivation, and health and safety, technical, and managerial skills and conduct regular reviews for those managers that report to you; these reviews will include providing forward feedback, establishing goals and performance standards, and will provide opportunities to coach and develop the subordinate Manager.

What You Will Need To Succeed:

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent, or technical/vocational school background, a bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum eight - ten (8 - 10) years in wastewater and water distribution/treatment or mechanical field(s) is required. Previous management experience is preferred.
  • Water and/or wastewater license certification, or dual certification preferred.
  • Candidate will have previous training in, or continue training in, general management, asset management and compliance management programs, human resources, new technology, financial management, and SCADA operations via continuing education opportunities.
