Estimator

Our Estimating and Projects Department is looking for an Estimator to join its team in Mississauga! We are looking for a skilled, educated, responsible and reliable candidate to provide support to our growing team.

 

• Work with business development and project team members when deciding on project bidding options/decisions.
• Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
• Ability to determine key variables for cost and other estimates.
• Conduct thorough research and investigation to obtain data on labour costs, materials costs, etc.
• Perform various levels of risk analysis associated with project costing.
• Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.).
• Provide consultation on project planning (schedules, labour needs, time requirements, etc.).
• Resolve various discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
• Present prepared estimate(s) by assembling and displaying numerical and description information.
• Prepare special reports as needed while summarizing information and trends.
• Travel to job sites in order to gather information to assist in the estimating process.
• Evaluate a product's cost-effectiveness and/or profitability.
• Make recommendations on methods to ensure projects are more cost-effective and/or profitable.
• Follow all established organizational policies and procedures.
• Support the vision and values of the organization.
• Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence.
• Perform work safely, so as not to endanger oneself or others.
• Reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others.
• Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
• Participate in team/staff meetings when required.
• Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

• Familiarity with financial and project management principles.
• In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities.
• Extreme attention to detail and thoroughness in his/her work.
• Must have direct project supervision and/or leadership experience in the environmental, industrial and/or emergency services field.
• Abilities to liaise with various departmental team members in order to investigate details and gather key pieces of information related to project estimation.
• Progressive experience in the environmental or waste management industry is considered an asset.
• Solid understanding of Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental legislation as it relates to remediation and waste management projects (an asset).
• Demonstrated efficiency and time management abilities with respect to his/her work.
• Above average communication and interpersonal skills, with strong ability to negotiate outcomes that to the greatest extent possible meet the needs of all parties.
