What we’re looking for: 

We are seeking a Director, Construction (known internally as Director, Deployment) to drive execution of Nexamp's Midwest deployment operations. This role leads a large, geographically dispersed team and is accountable for the timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of Nexamp’s clean energy projects. The ideal candidate combines deep construction expertise with operational leadership and excels at scaling teams, optimizing processes, and aligning construction execution with broader organizational goals.

We are accepting candidates in Chicago, IL where you will be hybrid 3 days a week. You will report to the VP, Deployment.

What you’ll do:  

  • Responsible for the planning and execution of all construction operations within the geographic region.
  • Build, coach and retain a growing construction team of top performers that will be operating across a vast geographic area 
  • Fully understand the region and company’s key performance indicators and annual goals and develop a plan to ensure success.
  • Continuously manage and develop relationships with key contractors across the region to manage risk across the portfolio.
  • Understand and participate in the project development process, as needed, to provide construction expertise and mitigate construction risk.
  • Collaborate with business development, engineering and procurement to ensure all projects stay on schedule regarding regulatory and construction timelines.
  • Understand and be able to analyze key construction cost drivers, both locally, as well as across the industry, to assist in budget and ROM preparation.
  • Actively participate in project engineering reviews, to provide value engineering and construction expertise.
  • Be the expert in contract administration and construction management and coach, train and mentor team members to become SMEs
  • Actively involved in new market development and establishing new sub-contractor bases within new regions.
  • Lead by example and enforce company and regulatory safety policies and procedures; address non-compliance among all employees, subcontractors and vendors. 

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of construction management experience, preferably in the solar industry, with deep knowledge of civil, electrical and utility construction
  • 5+ years of managing people, preferably in a remote environment
  • Utility scale solar experience preferred but not required
  • Experience managing budgets and schedules with a track record of success
  • Experience in contractor vetting and the project bid process
  • Knowledge of OSHA Safety standards; OSHA 10 is a minimum requirement
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • 4-year college degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar field required or equivalent work experience 
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project and various other construction management tools
  • Maintains professional licenses in trade (i.e. PMP, CSL, NABCEP PV, etc.)
  • Valid and current Driver's license
  • Willingness to travel at least 50% if required

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.   
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions. 
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions.
  • Previous experience engaging and inspiring teams to excel while focusing on the growth and well-being of team members.

Compensation 

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $185,000 - $210,000. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual bonus programs based on individual and company performance, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans). Additionally, you may be eligible to participate in the Company’s stock option plan. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but is not limited to, skills and qualifications, internal equity, performance, and geographic location.
