About the Opportunity

As Kambo’s Strategic Communications Lead, you will be the central hub for ensuring our brand voice, messaging, and communications systems are consistent, impactful, and aligned across the organization. You’ll run point on content intake, coordinate across teams, and get into the weeds to produce and refine high-quality communications materials. This is a hands-on role for someone who can both zoom out to see the big picture and roll up their sleeves to write, edit, triage, and publish.

Key Responsibilities

 • Coordinate and manage all MarComms requests, ensuring the highest-impact projects are prioritized and executed on time.
 • Plan, write, and edit content across a wide range of materials including reports, articles, decks, and company briefs.
 • Own the brand voice across the organization by reviewing and editing public- and team-facing documents to ensure clarity, tone, and consistency.
 • Lead content planning and alignment meetings with our Growth and Operations teams, as well as select clients as needed.
 • Translate Kambo’s impact into compelling stories drawn from fieldwork, partnerships, and team experiences.
 • Onboard, oversee, and coordinate freelance contributors, designers, and translators, managing timelines, deliverables, and quality.
 • Maintain and update the Kambo website with fresh, relevant content, working closely with developers/designers as needed.
 • Manage internal rollouts such as the introduction of new tools, policies, or org-wide updates.
 • Provide bi-weekly MarComms updates to leadership team.
 • Own final QA and approval of all major communications outputs during the Director of Marketing and Communication’s maternity leave. Note: this is a one-year contract with strong possibility of extension.

We're looking for someone who...

 • Is a strong writer and editor with a strategic mindset and high attention to detail.
 • Enjoys management but also thrives in the messy middle of execution.
 • Is confident leading projects, prioritizing competing needs, and managing up or across to get what you need.
 • Thrives in fast-paced environments and doesn’t hesitate to jump into the weeds.
 • Has experience with social impact work.
 • Is technologically savvy (we use tools like HubSpot, Notion, Canva, and Webflow).
 • Is responsible and able to proactively identify opportunities for impact.
 • Is curious with a passion for continuous learning and problem-solving in a dynamic industry.

We’re a company led by ambitious do-ers, attentive listeners, and creative problem-solvers. We believe that leadership is earned through action, and that everyone has the potential to cultivate their inner leader. Kambo offers career growth and development opportunities to ensure our hardworking team feels challenged, rewarded, and appreciated. We value diversity and inclusivity and strongly encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply. Your unique experiences and perspectives are invaluable to our work and community impact.

Kambo Energy Group is a minority-owned and run social enterprise committed to improving home comfort, safety, and energy efficiency in underrepresented communities. Founded in 2009, Kambo was created in response to a lack of diverse participation in utility and government retrofit programming from households with low-to-moderate incomes, diverse multicultural communities, Indigenous communities, and other harder-to-reach groups. Over the course of 14 years, Kambo’s community-centered approach has helped utilities, governments, and other industry partners boost participation by embedding equity considerations into energy and home retrofit programs.

Kambo is home to three in-house programs: Empower Me, Community Power, and the Home Upgrades Program. Empower Me delivers multilingual education, support, and coaching services to ensure immigrant and newcomer communities have access to energy and retrofit programs. Community Power partners with Indigenous communities to facilitate home building, renovation, and improvement projects. The Home Upgrades Program provides fully subsidized deep energy retrofits to improve affordability for Albertan households living in energy poverty.
