About the Job

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Mid-level Archaeologist (Archaeologist III) for immediate, full-time employment within our Cultural Resources practice in Portland, Oregon. The Archaeologist is a core member of the Cultural Resources Program in the Pacific Northwest, with responsibility for successfully executing projects and leading all aspects of project implementation.  This is a full-time, salaried position. The Archaeologist may serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator, based on work experience and education.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Being a part of the cultural resources team supporting the decommissioning of the Lower Klamath Project, a precedent setting dam removal and salmon habitat restoration project on the Klamath River.
  • Managing projects with small- to large-scale field efforts (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring) and intensive schedules.
  • Managing and executing archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping.
  • Operating as primary author or senior reviewer, as appropriate.
  • Managing large-scale compliance monitoring projects requiring adherence to permit conditions
  • Works under supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Supervising personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed.
  • Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, as well as other state and local regulations protecting cultural resources.
  • Organizing data in an efficient and clear manner.
  • Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to manager.
  • Operating as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects, as needed.
  • Performing client management duties such as recurring status meetings, milestone check ins, and day-to-day interfacing.
  • Working independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including travel.
