As an Operations Technician you will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned on shift.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment on the power plant. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the gas turbine, steam turbine, generators, heat recovery steam generator, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, fire suppression systems, brine maker, and all other balance of plant auxiliary equipment.
  • Operating raw water systems, demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.
  • Reading meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, & fluid levels, and water chemistry to verify operating conditions.
  • Performing general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility including painting projects as required and weed control when needed. Maintaining the cleanliness of all areas of the plant including grounds, warehouse, enclosures, and control room.
  • Utilizing the facility’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to enter work orders.
  • Operating heavy equipment such as a man lift and forklift.
  • Performing water chemistry analysis on heat recovery steam generator, auxiliary boiler, and cooling tower systems.
  • Performing capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by Plant Management.
  • Operating and maintains a Combined Cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance as directed by and in coordination with the control room operator (CRO).
  • Responsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
  • Responsible for outage planning and scheduling involvement.
  • Assisting with development of operations procedures and standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Assisting with administering the operator training program.
  • Identifying and resolves CEMS problems.
  • Assisting in calibrations and gas bottle change outs.
  • Keeping Operations Manager, Control Room Operator and Lead Control Room Operator fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift.
  • Ensuring water chemistry is within proper control ranges. Adjusts water chemistry, as needed, by controlling chemical feed and/or blowdown rates. Works with plant engineer, Lead Control Room Operator, and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.
  • Adhering to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees, contractors, and public safety.
  • Performing Inspection of Watch on each system within the plant. Inspection of watch includes recording data, observing operation of equipment looking for abnormal conditions, leaks, smells or sounds that indicate potential problems.
  • Acting as a role model in demonstrating Health, Safety & Environmental procedures/rules and standards.
  • Assisting with performing Root Cause Analysis of failures.
  • Operating on demineralized water systems in accordance with the Original Equipment Manufacturer and plant procedures and monitor demineralized water to ensure quality is within acceptable limits.
  • Completing ‘Lock-out Tag-out’, ‘Confined Space’, and other permits required to perform work on or inspect plant equipment.
  • Coordinating purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors in an effort to achieve timely delivery of materials and repair of plant equipment.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with / works with the Control Room Operator and OM in managing the plant’s inventory, and performing audits as needed.

What you will bring to the role:    

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college to technical school preferred.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations or has previous process control background.
  • Ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, written records.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, piping and instrument drawings (P&ID’s).
  • Ability to write routine reports, solve practical problems, and clearly communicate tasks, needs, and training of other personnel.
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient at Water Chemistry.
  • Maintain valid driver’s licenses.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift and be available to work for call-ins and work overtime as needed.
  • Consists of walking, reaching, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).

Additional Details:

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required, subject to applicable law.
