Through applied research, the use of frameworks and tools, partnerships with partners and ground-level implementation, we want to achieve impact at scale.

About the Role

Climate change is a pressing challenge, and subnational governments play a crucial role in driving mitigation efforts. To support these efforts, the Advanced Scenario Carbon Emissions Navigation Tool (ASCENT) is and excel based tool to assist sub national governments in tracking emissions, developing mitigation scenarios, and planning climate strategies.

ASCENT is built on methodologies from IPCC and the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC), enabling reliable and standardized GHG accounting. The tool facilitates emissions projections under different climate actions scenarios, integrates sectoral data (e.g., energy, transport, industry, waste, agriculture), and provides financial guidance for climate actions planning.

In this regard, WRI India’s Climate Program is looking for an intern for its ongoing work of the ASCENT - excel based Tool, ensuring it remains user-friendly, data-driven, and relevant to policymakers. The intern will work closely with the team to enhance tool’s functionality, assist in tool improvement, support for pre-loaded database creation and documentation for preparation of user guides.

  • Assisting in developing and researching strategies for sectoral emissions reductions
  • Supporting pilot-testing with subnational governments, gathering user feedback, and incorporating improvements.
  • Documenting changes and providing clear guidelines for users on how to use the tool.
