Have you been a compensation business partner for at least 10+ years and possess expert knowledge of compensation principles, theory, practices, and trends? Have you led projects or teams within compensation at a highly complex, collaborative organization?
At Argonne National Laboratory, our Human Resources Services (HRS) division has an exciting opportunity for a Compensation and Rewards Manager to join the Total Rewards Team! In this role, you will report directly to the Total Rewards Director and can expect to:
- Manage and lead a small team of compensation/rewards professionals.
- Proactively identify and drive initiatives to continuously improve and innovate compensation and reward programs.
- Partner with all levels of Argonne leadership to develop and ensure compensation strategies are aligned and executed in support of the Laboratory’s mission, values, and goals.
- Create and manage relationships with external vendors and consultants related to compensation and employee recognition.
- Manage, oversee, and contribute to projects ranging in scope from creating specific solutions for existing compensation programs to contributing to the review, assessment, improvement and execution of all internal reward and recognition programs.
- Design, enhance, and implement programs that recognize, reward, and retain world class employees and support Argonne’s strategic agenda.
- Collaborate with Program HR Managers/Generalist and line management to ensure reward and recognition programs are effectively communicated and integrated into the Laboratory’s culture.
- Oversee the annual merit cycle process.
- Work in a hybrid work set-up; with some required time in the office in Lemont, Illinois.

Position Requirements
Required skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field, and a minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in the compensation field, or equivalent.
- Experience leading or managing compensation projects, and managing other human resources professionals is preferred.
- Fully proficient in all aspects of compensation theory, design, communication, and administration.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and industry practices pertaining to compensation.
- Demonstrated business partner capabilities, with strong executive presence and relationship building.
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to deal diplomatically with sensitive and ambiguous matters.
- Ability to advocate, influence, communicate and manage change while being highly collaborative when solving problems with colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to lead the translation of data into trends, insights and program enhancements that lead to more strategic decision making.
- Ability to consistently model Argonne’s core values: impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
- To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
- Prior experience at another National Laboratory, Federal agency of contractor, scientific, academic or R&D organization.
- Experience working with/managing employee award and recognition programs and policies.
- Experience conducting market research and analysis.
- Experience with Workday HCM as well as a compensation management platform.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) Certification is highly desirable.

Full timeThe expected hiring range for this position is $100,519.00 - $158,618.07.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Additionally, comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package.
