About the Job

Radiant is an El-Segundo, CA-based clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Radiant's goal is to bring one of the world's first factory-constructed microreactors to market. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.

Senior Nuclear Engineer, Manufacturing Facility

Radiant is seeking a highly motivated nuclear engineer to define and execute on nuclear engineering analyses in support of Radiant’s microreactor production facility. You will own criticality safety– and safety analysis–driven design inputs for multiple nuclear working areas, including fresh fuel storage and handling, reactor fueling, reactor testing, and irradiated materials handling and storage. You will interface directly with manufacturing and regulatory engineers to develop submittals and documentation in support of facility licensing.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own nuclear engineering design and analysis deliverables in support of facility regulatory submittals
  • Responsible engineer for production facility nuclear engineering analyses, including criticality safety, radiation protection, and safety analyses
  • Build analysis methods and approaches, execute workflows, and document results to inform regulatory inputs
  • Integrate deliverables into the broader regulatory documentation

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or related discipline
  • 4–6 years experience in criticality safety, facility safety analysis, fuel manufacturing, or transportation
  • Proficiency in documentation of engineering design and analyses

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s in nuclear engineering or related discipline
  • 6–10 years experience in nuclear analysis in support of a fuel manufacturing facility
  • High level of independence in solving challenging engineering tasks is preferred.
  • Ability to seek out resources and proactively ask questions to finish projects through completion effectively, accurately, and timely.
  • Excited for our mission to rapidly deploy nuclear microreactors to remote locations requiring abundant, clean energy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with a proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • 4+ years of experience with nuclear engineering software such as SCALE, MCNP, etc.
  • Strong programming skills in any language, preferably Python.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
  • Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.

Employee Benefits for Eligible Employees:

  • Stock: Substantial incentive stock plan for all full time, salaried employees.
  • Medical: 100% up to base silver level plan for employee + 50% dependents, offers up to Platinum plans.
  • One Medical: Sponsored memberships for employees and their dependents.
  • Vision: 100% top tier plan coverage + 50% for dependents.
  • Dental: 100% top tier plan coverage, orthodontia extra, 50% for dependents.
