About the Job
The Role:
- Lead a world-class dimensional engineering team within the product engineering environment
- Resource planning for, recruitment for, and career development of dimensional engineering and engineering metrology teams
- Responsible for the dimensional strategy of the vehicle
- Focus on body structure, closures, interior, exterior, and chassis dimensional engineering
- Responsibility and opportunity to own and drive dimensional engineering from start to finish
- Build up to vehicle level dimensional simulation models in a rigid and compliant environment
- Correlate the simulation models with real world dimensional performance
- Advise hardware engineering groups on architecture, slip plane strategy, and detailed GD&T
- Work closely with all hardware engineering departments, suppliers, supply chain, supplier quality, manufacturing, quality, and metrology
- Responsibility for the Hardware Engineering Metrology department
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of direct experience in automotive dimensional engineering with specific responsibilities in a field such as body structures, closures, chassis, interior / exterior
- 5+ years of experience leading teams of dimensional engineers and metrologists with a minimum of 5 direct reports
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in automotive product data management (PDM), Catia, FT&A, GD&T, CAD
- Demonstrated experience as a detail-oriented manager with technical depth and breadth
- Full program cycle experience from concept to production launch in automotive field
- Experience with software such as 3DCS, Polyworks Dataloop, QDM
- Experience with metrology technologies from CMM to scanning to photogrammetry including data creation, alignment, and post-processing
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to achieve success in a fast-paced startup environment
- Profound knowledge of dimensional engineering and demonstrable track record of technical excellence and program execution
- Exceptional technical abilities paired with outstanding communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or related discipline
- A strong desire to create the very best product, working as an integral part of a very capable team
- A practical hands-on approach to complement engineering fundamentals and management skills
