As a fisheries biologist, you will be a member of a large Biodiversity and Ecosystems team in Canada, working within a multidisciplinary community of toxicologists, geochemists, hydrologists, aquatic scientists, and wildlife biologists (among other disciplines), and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts. This is an opportunity to contribute to aquatic environmental assessments and permitting for large-scale capital projects.

Your responsibilities:

  • Execute fish and fish habitat field programs in freshwater environments throughout Canada.
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of fisheries offsetting and compensation programs.
  • Compile, manage, analyze and interpret fish habitat, community, and biology data, and contribute to database management.
  • Draft technical reports, or sections of reports, including baseline reports, environmental monitoring reports, permitting applications and compliance reports, offsetting plans, and impact assessments.
  • Actively contribute to ERM’s international aquatics and fisheries technical communities.

Who you are:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or similar discipline. Or equivalent experience. 
  • Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent), or eligible to apply.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, including preparation of technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and permit applications.
  • Strong data management and QAQC skills.
  • 2+ years (3+ preferred) of experience, including field experience in fish and fish habitat assessment, fish sampling on lakes and rivers, water quality sampling, and aquatic biology (experience with hydroacoustic/bathymetric assessment, fish tagging, telemetry, fish habitat offsetting are also assets).
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines as they apply to the mining and oil & gas sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, work independently with minimal supervision, and travel.
  • Excellent problem solving abilities.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.  
  • Pleasure Craft Operators license.
  • Electrofishing certification, Occupational First Aid, Transportation.
  • Endorsement, ATV/snowmobile safety, Swiftwater Rescue Training are assets.
