About the Job
The Particle Theory Group of the High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Physicist, equivalent to a university tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Depending on experience, an appointment at a higher rank will be considered. The search is in all areas of theoretical particle physics, with an emphasis on particle physics phenomenology.
Members in the Particle Theory Group work on physics within and beyond the Standard Model, phenomenology at current and future colliders, as well as emerging areas in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Quantum Information and Quantum Simulation. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an independent research program in particle theory to strengthen and complement current research efforts in the group and division, with opportunities to mentor postdoctoral researchers and students.
The Argonne HEP Division offers a stimulating environment. In addition to a very active experimental program that includes participation in the ATLAS experiment in the Energy Frontier, DUNE, Mu2e and g-2 experiments in the Intensity Frontier and SPT-3G, CMB-S4, LSST DESC, DES, and Roman Survey in the Cosmic Frontier, the Division is engaged in physics preparations for the EIC, the development of advanced accelerator technologies (Argonne Wakefield Accelerator), as well as in the development of novel superconducting detectors. An additional theoretical effort lies in computational cosmology.
Applications should be received by June 30, 2025 to ensure full consideration. The anticipated start date of the position is in the Fall of 2025. Late applications would be reviewed should the position remain open. A complete application must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae as well as a description of the candidate's research plan and three letters of reference will be required.
For further information on the position, please contact senior members of the Particle Theory group: Tim Hobbs (tim@anl.gov) and Ian Low (ilow@anl.gov)
