WAGE RATE: $53.56 - $61.54
Experience
Preferred 6-8 years of related technical experience in underground civil construction environment or electric utility industry with a specific focus in underground construction. Construction management experience and underground and line construction management experience in electrical transmission & distribution is preferred.
Education
Must pass entry test and actively pursuing Construction Management Certification (CCM) or similar training certification may be acceptable, certification must be completed within 3 years of accepting the position. Maintaining studies on NESC every 2 years, 40hr Hazwoper Training, with yearly 8hr refresher, OSHA 30hr safety training, CUSP Blue preferred, and Switching & Tagging Training, with refresher every 2 years.
Job Purpose (High level overview of Role)
Provide civil construction oversight to ensure quality assurance services of the construction of, and modification to, UI's distribution and transmission underground ductlines, splice chambers, vaults, underground residential development (URD) and complex civil construction projects as required. Provide technical expertise and construction management as it relates to the transmission and distribution system to UI personnel and construction contractors. Manage an array of distribution and transmission system civil construction projects for which engineering and/or construction may be provided by internal and external resources (contractors and consultants)
Job Responsibilities
Safety Evaluation – Participate in daily tailboard to discuss work to be completed, to identify any safety risks and discuss how they are going to be managed. Ensures outside construction crews accept safety as their personal responsibility.
Direct external contractors in project tracking & control (e.g. construction schedule, cost, resource allocation). Monitor, evaluate and manage construction schedule, and direct adjustments as required for efficient and cost-effective execution
Works with supervision/chief/PMs to solves civil construction problems and helps to develop solutions to keep construction on schedule
Plan and coordinate various aspects of the construction project life cycle. Prepare and maintain construction project records and documentation as required. Multiple project responsibility as assigned.
Review project plans and develop construction schedules, outage requirements, material requirements and generate the construction costs for all T&D UG/overhead projects.
Coordinate with the Project Managers and/or Communications Manager on all customer outreach communications needed to support construction activities/projects
Apply and interpret design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines & UI polices/procedures
Ensures adherence to Avangrid Safety Manual, construction specifications, standards and safe work practices, and National Electric Safety Code, DEEP, DOT and OSHA regulations
Assist Project Manager with bid specifications and Pay ID Construction Units for framework agreements. Monitors contractor Pay ID and assure actual project costs are aligned to approved project charter
Involved with multiple on-site construction activities including organizing and coordinating construction operations, materials, and equipment. Effectively communicate changes in scope, schedule and resource variations to the Project Manager and Team
Providing daily progress reports and as-builts as construction progresses and when civil work is completed, providing the PM final drawing updates to assist with project closeout.
Avangrid employees may be assigned a system emergency role and in the event of a system emergency, may be required to work outside of their regular schedule/job duties. Regular on-call schedule to be developed to handle emergency civil work outside of regular schedule job duties.
Required Skills and Abilities
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Database, etc.)
Able to work with a cross-functional team to explain difficult issues, create action plans, recognize risks, and meet deadlines
Conceptual thinking -Able to identify key aspects of complex situations and understand the big picture
Professional judgment and interaction required in dealing with but not limited to customers, contractors, inspectors and other agencies.
Must pass TD-800 Switching – required retesting after 3 years to maintain qualifications for skill
Other Abilities
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask.
Must be a proven team player who develops team working relationships.
