About the Job
Global Communications Manager, Carbon Business Council
The Carbon Business Council (CO2BC) is a global coalition of over 100 companies focused on developing and scaling carbon removal solutions to address climate change and boost the economy. Our members are innovators, working to develop and deploy technologies and strategies that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and manage carbon emissions. We aim to accelerate carbon removal, which is a critical piece of climate action, alongside efforts to reduce emissions and prepare for climate impacts.
We’re hiring a Global Communications Manager to join our team. Reflecting our global coalition, we are seeking candidates based in the European Union, United Kingdom, or Canada. The Manager will support the communications and ecosystem building efforts of the Carbon Business Council. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and dynamic communications professional to help elevate the global story of carbon removal.
The Manager will play a key role in expanding CO2BC’s presence and impact across events, social media and media relations. The Manager joins the Carbon Business Council at an impactful time for the carbon removal landscape: billions of dollars in public and private support is unlocking innovation, increasing media interest, and raising awareness in local communities where there are proposed projects. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth of a cutting-edge sector while working with an agile team.
CO2BC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace and considers qualified candidates for this position without regard to age, sex, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity, military/veteran status, or other basis prohibited by law. CO2BC is an initiative of the Carbon Business Development Council.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. To be included in the first round of screening interviews, apply by the end of the day on Tuesday, June 10th.
About The Role
The Manager will provide hands-on support for coalition initiatives, with a core focus on communications and ecosystem building. This includes social media content creation, media outreach, event support, and industry trend monitoring. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple areas of communications and is comfortable with campaign execution. This role reports to the Communications Director to support initiatives and campaigns that raise awareness and drive impact for carbon removal. We value nimbleness: we are an agile team that is responsive to the news cycle.
Primary Responsibilities
Media Relations: Support the team in media outreach for press releases and other campaigns, in the European Union, Canada, and globally. Assist in building and maintaining media lists, drafting pitches, and tracking media coverage.
Ecosystem Support: Represent CO2BC at events and drive in-person convenings. Provide logistical and communications support for in-person and online events, including drafting event materials, coordinating logistics, and more.
Partner Coordination: Support in coordinating media opportunities with our partner network.
Content Development: Lead on drafting materials, including blog posts, email campaigns, newsletters, fact sheets and public opinion research.
Social Media: Support with the development and execution of social media strategies, including content creation, daily channel management, and support of paid campaigns, to build awareness about carbon removal.
News Monitoring & Reporting: Track industry news, monitor relevant media coverage and prepare reports summarizing key trends.
Campaign Tracking: Track and analyze the performance of communications and policy campaigns, compiling reports and recommendations for improvements.
It is not required for a single candidate to have existing expertise across all of these categories — we’re seeking candidates that are particularly strong in a few of the responsibilities and have interest, capabilities, and willingness to learn in others.
Required Qualifications
At least 4 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
Experience working in global media markets and/or familiarity with reporters covering sustainability, business trends, and innovation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a remote, collaborative team.
Passion for climate action, with a particular interest in carbon removal.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Authorization to work in the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, or United States
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience and/or demonstrated interest in carbon removal and/or climate change.
Policy expertise, in climate change or a related field.
Proven ability to create engaging content for social media platforms and managing day-to-day social media activities.
Prior experience assisting on paid digital campaigns and/or public opinion research.
Experience supporting event logistics or conferences, both virtually and in-person.
Familiarity with campaign tracking and management tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Hubspot, or similar platforms.
Experience tracking media coverage and generating reports.
Location & Hours
Our team is fully remote. We are seeking candidates based in the European Union, United Kingdom, or Canada for this position. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates based in Brussels, London, Zurich, and Ottawa. Applicants will primarily work hours that are aligned with their local time zone, while also working to find overlapping windows with the team based on the US East Coast. Occasional travel may be required for conferences, events, and team meetings.
This position requires working at a computer for extended periods of time. We value work-life balance, but the nature of the news cycle means some flexibility with hours will be required.
Salary
The salary for this position is competitive with market rates and will be commensurate with experience and location. This is a full-time position for 40 hours a week. The Carbon Business Council benefits package includes paid vacation, personal and sick leave, paid time off for major holidays, and more.
To Apply
To apply, please send a resume and cover letter about your background and why you are interested in the position to info@CarbonBusinessCouncil.org. Please include your name and “Global Communications Manager” in the subject line.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. For the first round of screening interviews, apply by Tuesday, June 10th. Due to the volume of submissions, we unfortunately cannot respond to all emails.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace and considers qualified candidates for this position without regard to age, sex, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity, military/veteran status, or other basis prohibited by law.
