GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of Equipment Supervisor, assists in the transportation and maintenance of heavy equipment.  Performs general construction labor duties carried out in building and maintaining MWCD lands and facilities. Assists by providing input to plan maintenance, construction work and inspection of projects.

EQUIPMENT AND/OR SOFTWARE OPERATED/USED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Heavy duty trucks, tandem trucks, heavy equipment trailers, hand tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Paycom and other applicable equipment and/or software.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: 

The individual holding this position can be called 24 hours a day to handle an emergency. Infrequent emergency work on evening, weekends, out-of-town and overtime may be required.

Works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; works in a confined space (e.g., manhole); works in the vicinity of dockboards (bridge plates); works in an area in which the means of egress is or can be obstructed; works on and around powered platforms and/or vehicle mounted platforms (e.g., manlifts, fire trucks); is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; is exposed to possible injury from extremely noisy conditions above 85db (e.g., chainsaws, chopsaws); is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, or air contaminants; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous waste; is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; is exposed to possible injury as a result of electrical shock; is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines (e.g., ); is exposed to possible injury from explosions; is exposed to possible injury as a result of falling from high places; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to potentially vicious animals; has exposure to life threatening situations; has exposure to fire; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to extreme non-weather related heat or cold; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; has exposure to shaking objects or surfaces; has exposure to second-handsmoke.

Note:  In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered heavy work.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:

JOB DUTIES in order of importance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

80% (1)

Transports aggregates and heavy equipment such as a mower, dump truck, skid loader, trencher, grader, track hoe, backhoe and bulldozer. Assists with the maintenance and repair of dump trucks, heavy construction equipment and other vehicles used in daily operations. Assists in seeing that necessary materials and supplies are available on the job site for MWCD projects. Performs general labor duties that may involve the use of shovels and various hand tools used in excavating, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, concrete, jack hammer, chain saws, torches and welding knowledge and skills.

Assists with site and layout for projects including use of laser level to assure positive drainage. Responsible for job site safety under the supervision of the Equipment Supervisor and/or Lead Equipment Operator. Training will be required to become the competent person on excavation projects.

Maintains required licensures and certification, if any.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (*indicates developed after employment)

Skilled in:  Written and oral communication. Hauling equipment, masonry; welding; excavation; plumbing; electrical work.

Ability to: Communicate effectively; operate equipment; drive to and from job sites.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Completion of high school (12th school grade) or possession of GED certificate and one (1) or more years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

Must possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Ohio and must be insurable by MWCD fleet insurance. Possession of a CDL Class A.

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD), a political subdivision of the State of Ohio, was responsible for the development of the reservoirs and dams. Today the MWCD is dedicated to providing the benefits of flood reduction, water conservation and recreational opportunities in the Muskingum River Watershed.</span></div> </div> </div> </div>
