We are seeking a highly motivated and safety-conscious Operations Technician to join our operations team in Martinez, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the processes to produce hydrogen (e.g., steam system, compressors, rotating equipment, and DCS operation), performing equipment inspections and minor maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to following safety protocols.

The Martinez HYCO, hydrogen manufacturing facilities are located on two refineries in Martinez. The facilities consist of four (4) SMR (steam methane reformers) units and associated equipment supporting two refinery customers.

Required Skills / Abilities:   

  • A strong commitment to safety, working as a team, and operational excellence.
  • A self-starter with a Strong Work ethic.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping schematics/ diagrams.
  • Utilizing written procedures for starting and stopping equipment.
  • Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out process.
  • Performing water chemistry testing.
  • Operating manual and pneumatic valves.
  • Operating systems from remote location via Distributed Control System.
  • Standing rotating watches outside normal working hours i.e. turbine Generator Watch and CCS/ DC Central Watch.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Day to day control and monitoring the processes to produce hydrogen, which includes operating and controlling the following: furnaces, compressors, DCS monitoring systems, rotating equipment, catalyst reactors, Water Treatment Systems (Boiler and Cooling Water Systems).
  • Pneumatically Operated and Manual Valves.
  • Troubleshoot, respond to operating conditions, respond to customer order rates, and process optimization.
  • Complete operator rounds, execute minor preventative maintenance, and support mechanical and instrumentation maintenance and projects.
  • Permit work in the field and monitor contract partners.
  • Participate in Process Safety and Personnel Safety programs and implement site policies and regulations.

Work Hours & Benefits:

  • Able to work 12hr rotating shift schedule to support the 24/7 operation of the units
  • On call during weekdays and weekends as needed.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a HS diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment with chemical processing or petrochemical preferred.
  • An associates degree in Process Technology or Engineering is advantageous and may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC.

This is a safety sensitive position.

Starting rate is $51.62/hour (8-hour shift for new hires), PLUS potential overtime and bonus. (This role is a ladder position, and advancement is possible based on experience and demonstrated competency).
