As a Gas Shift Trader, you’ll be part of a dynamic 24/7 team responsible for managing and optimising our physical gas portfolio, executing short-term trading strategies, and ensuring seamless operations across assets and third-party positions. About the Role

As a Gas Shift Trader, you’ll be at the centre of Centrica Energy’s physical gas operations, managing real-time imbalances, scheduling assets, and executing trading strategies. You’ll work as part of a 24/7 shift team, operating independently outside of office hours and ensuring seamless transitions between shifts. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence short-term market performance while contributing to continuous improvement across our trading operations.

You will be part of the front-office gas team and your responsibilities will include:

• Managing and optimising physical gas imbalances and scheduling across Centrica’s asset and third-party portfolios, including coordination with TSOs, SSOs, and internal stakeholders.

• Executing and supporting short-term trading strategies, including proprietary trading and hedging, to generate PnL based on real-time market analysis.

• Operating within Centrica’s Ethics & Compliance and Market Risk frameworks, promoting a culture of integrity, and escalating potential issues proactively.

• Demonstrating value through efficient execution and scheduling of third-party and internal gas positions, aligned with agreed KPIs and delegated authority.

• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including automation projects and enhancements to trading processes and systems.

• Working closely with short term traders, curve traders and portfolio managers towards the CE gas PnL targets

Ideally this role is based in Aalborg where the main part of our gas business is but for the right candidate it is also possible to be based in Copenhagen.

This role is also a proven pathway into a full trading position within the Centrica Energy Gas team. You’ll gain hands-on experience with real-time market operations, develop a deep understanding of our trading strategies, and build the skills and relationships needed to progress your career as a trader in one of Europe’s most exciting energy markets.

About You

You understand the importance of balancing opportunity with risk and are eager to grow in a supportive, high-performance environment.

The ideal candidate has:

• Strong numerical reasoning and analytical thinking.

• Solid understanding of energy market fundamentals, trading, and technical analysis.

• Familiarity with Centrica’s internal systems and processes (e.g., Loadbook) is a plus.

• Deep knowledge of UK gas short-term trading systems, including trade capture, nomination, and position management tools.

• Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are welcomed.

• A team-first attitude and a passion for innovation and improvement.
