We at SFEI are seeking a Technology Analyst to work in the Clean Water and Environmental Informatics Programs. This is a full-time position for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant scientific, information management, or data science field, with an interest in environmental issues.
The Analyst will be a member of the Data Services team, which is responsible for the smooth operation of SFEI’s enterprise-level production databases and for providing data management and analytical services to internal and external stakeholders. The Analyst will assist in reviewing, transforming, loading and maintaining environmental data to support the San Francisco Bay Regional Monitoring Program
SFEI has a thirty-year track record of informing key environmental decisions through the use of credible, high-quality data. As a part of the Data Services team, the Analyst would contribute meaningfully to this remarkable legacy.
Primary responsibilities for this position will include:

Tracking and processing data submittals from contract labs and research partners
-
Reviewing, uploading and maintaining monitoring data according to the Institute’s standard operating procedures and relational database structure

Building and/or modifying scripts to transform, load, review and access data
-
Reviewing and comparing submitted data to project goals for accuracy, precision, sensitivity, contamination and completeness

Resolving issues with data submittals by working with Institute staff and staff from contract laboratories and research partners.

Assisting in the assembly, analysis, and presentation of data for technical reports, web-based tools, and other products

Qualifications
Required Experience
-
Bachelor's degree or higher in a pertinent scientific, information management, or computer science field, with an interest in environmental issues, plus some experience in data processing and working with relational databases.
Required Skills
-
Must possess strong knowledge of spreadsheet applications, especially Excel and/or Google Sheets
-
Database querying and strong understanding of relational database structure
-
Writing scripts (e.g. Python, SQL, R, etc.) to wrangle, transform, and process data
-
Experience reviewing complex data sets for quality assurance and other issues
-
Exceptional attention to detail
-
Excellent problem solving skills
-
Effective written and verbal communication skills
-
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and also in a team environment
Useful Additional Skills
-
Knowledge of relevant software (e.g. MS SQL Server, postgreSQL, R, Python/pandas, Git/version control)

Experience working with CEDEN,SWAMP, GeoTracker, WQX or other environmental data repositories
-
Experience working on environmental monitoring projects or with analytical chemistry results)

Interest in working in a mission-driven environmental science non-profit
Salary & Benefits highlights:

This will be a Technology Analyst position. The anticipated salary range for full time employment is $80,742-$88,294 for this position (Bay Area salary ranges are listed; note that salary ranges for other locations are 10-15% lower depending on location). Salary ranges take into account many factors for making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, education, internal equity, and organizational needs. We generally do not offer salaries at or near the top of the range.

About the Program
The Clean Water Program is one of the nation’s premier water quality science programs. It anticipates and meets the water quality data needs of policy-makers, resource managers, and the public. It helps the public, regulators, and those who discharge into our waters create more effective policies to ensure the health of our waters. The Environmental Informatics Program utilizes the latest technology and design concepts to deliver scientific information to a wide range of stakeholders in dynamic, expressive, and cogent ways. The Data Services (DS) team takes to heart its massive responsibilities in ensuring that the best available science SFEI produces is truly the best it can be. Their role in data processing and custody, as well as data analysis and visualization, contributes to SFEI’s reputation as one of the nation’s best sources for scientific data
