Job Summary:
The QA/QC Engineer for an Infrastructure Works Project is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities comply with the specified quality standards, contract requirements, and regulatory guidelines. This role involves developing and implementing quality assurance and quality control procedures, conducting inspections and tests, identifying potential quality issues, and coordinating corrective actions. The QA/QC Engineer works closely with the project team, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain high-quality standards throughout the project lifecycle, from design through to completion.
Key Job Duties:
- Quality Management System Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project’s Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) plans, ensuring they align with contractual requirements and regulatory standards.
- Ensure that all project documentation, including specifications, drawings, and standards, are in compliance with applicable quality standards.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish and maintain quality management protocols that support consistent and high-quality project delivery.
- Inspection & Testing:
- Conduct regular inspections of materials, processes, and workmanship to verify compliance with design specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
- Supervise and coordinate the testing of materials and construction activities, ensuring that all tests are conducted as per the project specifications and industry standards.
- Review inspection and test reports to ensure accurate documentation and traceability of quality control activities.
- Non-Conformance Management:
- Identify, document, and report any non-conformance with quality standards or specifications, and coordinate corrective actions with the project team.
- Develop and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) to resolution, ensuring that all identified issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Ensure that corrective and preventive actions are implemented and verify the effectiveness of these actions.
- Quality Audits & Reviews:
- Conduct regular quality audits of both internal processes and contractors’ work to ensure adherence to the project’s quality management system.
- Review subcontractor quality control procedures and documentation to ensure compliance with project quality requirements.
- Perform periodic reviews of quality performance to ensure continuous improvement in construction quality.
- Document Control & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, certifications, and other relevant quality documentation.
- Prepare and submit detailed quality reports, highlighting key quality issues, corrective actions taken, and the status of quality performance.
- Ensure that all quality-related documentation is easily accessible for audits, inspections, and project handover.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders:
- Work closely with the project manager, contractors, subcontractors, and consultants to address quality issues and ensure a collaborative approach to quality management.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on quality assurance activities, highlighting any challenges or potential risks related to quality.
- Ensure that all project stakeholders are aware of quality requirements and actively participate in the implementation of quality control procedures.
- Material & Equipment Quality Assurance:
- Review and approve material submittals and verify that materials conform to specified standards before use on-site.
- Ensure that all equipment used on the project meets the required quality standards and is properly maintained for optimum performance.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure that materials and equipment are stored and handled according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
- Training & Mentoring:
- Provide training to project team members, contractors, and subcontractors on quality management processes, procedures, and standards.
- Mentor junior QA/QC engineers and staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality standards.
- Develop and conduct quality-related training sessions to enhance awareness and compliance with quality standards across the project team.
- Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions:
- Investigate quality issues or failures, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with the project team to identify underlying causes of quality issues and implement effective corrective actions to improve overall quality performance.
- Compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards:
- Ensure that all QA/QC activities are carried out in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct safety and environmental checks as part of the quality inspection process, ensuring that quality standards do not compromise safety or environmental practices.
- Participate in health and safety audits to ensure that quality control measures are aligned with safety regulations.
- Project Closeout & Handover:
- Ensure that quality documentation is complete and accurately reflects the final product, including as-built drawings, inspection/test reports, and compliance certificates.
- Assist in the final project handover, ensuring that all quality-related documentation is finalized and handed over to the client or relevant stakeholders.
