General Labourer

The general labourer is responsible for day-to-day operations with respect to waste receiving, handling, processing and disposal.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.

• Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.

• Load and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, straight trucks and van trailers.

• Operate plant machinery and assist with general maintenance.

• Assisting in waste treatment and wastewater treatment methods and processes.

• Assist with preparing shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.

• Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed.

• Notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identified.

• Comply with rules, procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

• Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.

• Previous experience operating air diaphragm pumps and bulk liquid transfer systems is an asset.

• Propane forklift experience/certification is an asset.

• Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.

• Must be comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment.

• Loading and Unloading box trucks and trailers (lifting 45 lbs above waste, and manipulating heavier drums onto skids)

• Shredding Paint Cans, Containers of Adhesives, and other containers of non-hazardous solids or sludges
  Cleaning and prepping emptied drums for reuse using a pressure washer

• Valid G License with a good driver abstract.

• **Must be clean shaven** in order to wear a mask

May-Mid November the candidate will be required to rotate between the following 2 schedules:
Week A=Mon, Tues, Saturday, Sunday (8:15am-8:45pm)
Week B=Wednesday, Thursday Friday (8:15am-8:45pm)
Rotations will end in November. Candidates will then enter a Monday-Friday schedule to work the following shift:
Overnight shift (12am-8:30am) -
Repeat schedule once May comes back around
