About the Job
About SensorFlow
SensorFlow is a leader in IoT-driven energy management, transforming how buildings operate to achieve smarter, more sustainable energy outcomes. Our data is at the heart of delivering measurable impact, and we’re looking for a Data Science Lead to drive this forward. This role is a rare opportunity to lead a talented data science team and guide the development of models, insights, and tools that directly support customer outcomes, product innovation, and operational excellence.
About the Role
We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on Data Science Lead who can set the vision for data science at SensorFlow and mentor a growing team. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to work across functions to turn complex data into scalable products and customer-facing insights. You will lead a team of two data scientists and work closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, providing technical direction, setting standards, and overseeing the development of high-quality models, pipelines, and customer-facing outputs.
- Drive data science strategy in alignment with company goals—across customer reporting, savings measurement, predictive modeling, and product feature development.
- Act as the bridge between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring that data science outputs are actionable, scalable, and easy to understand by diverse stakeholders.
- Guide the design and validation of predictive models using time-series and occupancy data to forecast energy consumption and savings.
- Oversee and improve model explainability and communication, ensuring that insights are clear for customers and internal teams.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering on building robust data infrastructure and pipelines, ensuring data accuracy and model scalability.
- Stay up-to-date with advances in data science, machine learning, and energy analytics, and apply relevant techniques and tools.
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and upskilling efforts as the data team scales.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of leading technical teams and delivering production-level models and reporting pipelines.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong expertise in Python, SQL, and modeling time-series data. Familiarity with DBT, cloud data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake), and data visualization platforms (Looker, Tableau) is a plus.
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and data storytelling.
- Demonstrated success working cross-functionally and communicating data science outputs to business and customer-facing teams.
- A collaborative and pragmatic approach to leadership—mentoring junior data scientists while being hands-on when needed.
- Experience in the energy, proptech, or IoT space is advantageous but not essential.
