This role presents a unique opportunity to lead a highly talented technical team while technically engaging in a wide range of hands-on work on instrumentation and software tools to support development and certification flight test programs of new and novel eVTOL aircraft. Flight testing at Joby Aviation is very fast-paced, and we are looking for an individual who can work with various stakeholders across the company, deal with frequently changing test scenarios, and lead/follow effectively. </p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>As a people manager, lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians responsible for developing, configuring, and maintaining Flight Test Instrumentation systems, Ground Controls Stations &amp; Software Tools used within the Flight Test Department. </li> <li>Lead the development of processes for the design, installation, maintenance and configuration control of all Flight Test Instrumentation across the Joby flight test fleet.</li> <li>Oversee the design of all flight test specific hardware and software that supports the developmental and certification flight test programs.   </li> <li>Guide the architecture of processes and software tools to help smooth the transition from developmental flight testing into certification flight testing. </li> <li>Foster innovation by evaluating and integrating new technologies into the Flight Test Department.</li> <li>Manage project schedules, resources and budgets for Flight Test Instrumentation, Ground Control Station and Software Tool deliverables. </li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Bachelor of Science (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other technical field).</li> <li>10+ years of experience as an engineer intimately involved in design, implementation, or utilization of instrumentation systems and/or software tools in experimental flight testing.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in training and mentoring technical personnel.</li> <li>Extensive experience in the following areas with expert-level proficiency in:</li> <ul>  <li>Flight Test Instrumentation System</li>  <ul>   <li>Instrumentation systems design and implementation on experimental aircraft.</li>   <li>Data acquisition hardware, telemetry operations, and industry standards.</li>   <li>Maintenance of FTI systems and sensors.</li>  </ul>  <li>Software Tool</li>  <ul>   <li>Software development for engineering applications, real-time data systems, and data analysis tools.</li>   <li>Programming languages such as Python (extensive experience required), C++, Javascript, and Matlab.</li>   <li>Data manipulation, including large-scale data changes in formats like YAML.</li>   <li>General software packages, languages, and libraries such as Angular, SQL, and Git.</li>  </ul> </ul> <li>Experience with flight test configuration management processes.</li> <li>3D design experience</li> <li>Proven ability to create comprehensive procedures and reports.</li> <li>Experience working with ground and flight test teams across various categories of aircraft.</li> <li>Excellent verbal and technical writing skills.</li> <li>Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.</li> <li>A proactive team player who maintains a strong sense of urgency in communications and actions.</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Experience in using LabView.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in building, leading, and managing technical teams, particularly in instrumentation and/or software development domains.</li> <li>FAA Part 23/25/29 or equivalent EASA certification experience and knowledge.</li> <li>Knowledge and experience with the certification of air data systems.</li></ul><p> </p><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $160,500 - $214,000/yr.
