Context:&nbsp;The Center for Green Market Activation™ (GMA) is a US-based, globally-focused nonprofit that was launched in Spring of 2024. Through innovative book-and-claim systems, new and creative procurement approaches, and demand aggregating buyers’ alliances, GMA catalyzes and scales the uptake of low- and zero-carbon goods and services in the hardest-to-abate sectors. GMA’s organizational design combines shared expertise and infrastructure with sector-specific programs. By consolidating a range of value chain mitigation initiatives under a single non-profit umbrella, we will help companies ramp up their Scope 3 mitigation quickly, starting in one sector and easily moving into another. &nbsp;GMA’s internship program provides hands-on experience in advancing low- and zero-carbon solutions in hard-to-abate sectors. Interns will collaborate with a highly innovative team to support both sector-specific and operational programs and contribute to first-of-kind solutions to climate change. You must have the right to work in the United States. &nbsp;Hours and Salary:&nbsp;We anticipate this internship to start in early to late September for 10 - 20 hours per week and have a duration for up to 4 months. We have joined forces with the RMI team to stand up a Low-Emission Chemicals program with two subprograms: petrochemical-derived plastics (primarily via ethylene) and ammonia-based fertilizers. At this stage, the initiative is focused on engaging closely with a small group of Scope 3 pilot buyers of plastics and fertilizer to launch first-of-kind procurements for low-emission plastics products within these key segments of the chemicals market.&nbsp;Our work involves establishing a fact base through primary and secondary research, launching RFIs to suppliers of low-emission chemicals, and hosting regular buyer group meetings to inform the procurement process, which includes the development of a framework book and claim system for the chemicals sector. Through the development of high-integrity, market-based solutions, we aim to address gaps in market dynamics and accelerate the adoption of low-carbon, sustainable technologies for key chemicals.&nbsp;&nbsp;Key Responsibilities:  &nbsp;Research and Analysis &nbsp;<ul><li>Research production processes of primary chemicals, lifecycle assessments for various end products, mitigation potential of various decarbonization levers, climate solutions available at commercial scale, and other topics as requested by staff &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Help develop a framework book and claim system design that can support early-stage pilot procurements. This includes conducting primary and secondary research to assess the viability of various functional units, pressure testing existing approaches to baseline calculations, and ensuring that our sustainability criteria represent best-in-class standards while also being attainable&nbsp;</li></ul>Technical and Professional Communications &nbsp;<ul><li>Draft program updates and insightful research presentations to inform the team’s fact base&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Draft presentation materials for relevant stakeholders (primarily Scope 3 chemicals buyers, but may extend audience to partner NGOs, and technical experts) &nbsp;</li></ul>Stakeholder and Project Management &nbsp;<ul><li>Manage recruitment pipeline for corporate Scope 3 buyers&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Schedule stakeholder meetings, draft meeting summaries, and other administrative tasks as assigned &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Assist in the technical facilitation of stakeholder meetings &nbsp;</li></ul>Skills and Qualifications:&nbsp;Required: &nbsp;<ul><li>Current or recent graduate of a degree program relevant to the chemicals initiative (e.g., economics, chemical engineering, environmental science, many others) &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Strong commitment to and enthusiasm for addressing the climate crisis &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Strong technical writing and oral communications skills &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Strong interest in becoming an expert in technical topics related to sustainability &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Must love working in teams on collaborative projects as well as be a self-starter and able to complete tasks with little oversight &nbsp;</li></ul>One or more of the following preferred: &nbsp;<ul><li>Knowledge of the GHG Protocol and/or Science Based Targets Initiative &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Experience with corporate GHG inventories and reporting against climate targets &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Experience with Scope 3 emissions accounting and reporting &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Experience with Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), either for electricity or for emerging industries and attribute systems &nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Experience with large stakeholder processes, including analyzing and responding to written comments and managing project timelines&nbsp;</li></ul>
