Job Purpose As a key member of the bioinformatics scrum team, the Associate Biocurator/Biocurator will: <ul><li>Support the generation of high-quality genomic annotations for company projects, such as GEiGS Biocompute (e.g., miRNA precursors, siRNA, gene target selection). </li></ul><ul><li>Contribute to the design and implementation of the Tropic knowledgebase, including the collection and curation of annotations for Tropic crops (e.g., SNPs, genome edits, sgRNAs). </li></ul><ul><li>Promote, train, and integrate user experience (UX) feedback to enhance the Tropic knowledgebase across the organisation (e.g., internal tools like genome browsers and atlases). </li></ul><ul><li>Collaborate closely with stakeholders—including project managers, users, and bioinformaticians—to translate business needs into effective solutions.  </li></ul> Key Responsibilities <ul><li>Generate, curate, and consolidate genomic annotations to design GEiGS solutions and analyse genotyping data to provide insights to the genotyping team. </li></ul><ul><li>Assist in the design and implementation of robust data structures and data management processes. </li></ul><ul><li>Facilitate the transition of teams to knowledgebase-driven workflows, including preparing genomic data for genome browsers and training users across platforms, crops, and technology development. </li></ul><ul><li>Identify and develop new knowledgebases, particularly at the intersection with the genotyping and crop teams.  </li></ul><ul><li>Support BIX team with tasks as required at the discretion of the head of Bioinformatics. </li></ul> Essential Requirements <ul><li>BSc or MSc in Bioinformatics, Biology, Genetics, or a related discipline. </li></ul><ul><li>Minimum 1–2 years of direct, hands-on experience in bioinformatics or genomic analysis. </li></ul><ul><li>Strong understanding of scientific and bioinformatics research methodologies in at least one domain (e.g., genotyping, transcriptomics, etc.). </li></ul><ul><li>Several years of experience working with experimental data. </li></ul><ul><li>Basic proficiency in Python or another programming language. </li></ul><ul><li>Knowledge of genetic editing in plants. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience handling and transforming large, complex datasets. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with exotic or complex genomes (e.g., banana). </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to design and lead the implementation of solutions and processes from inception (e.g., analysis of complex mutations). </li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively in dynamic, multidisciplinary teams. </li></ul><ul><li>Strong communication skills with both biologists and bioinformaticians. </li></ul><ul><li>High attention to details and accuracy in completing assignments. </li></ul><ul><li>Evidence of both effective teamwork and independent research accomplishments. </li></ul> Desirable Attributes <ul><li>Understanding of data standards and ontologies, and their role in structured data management. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience in navigating and querying the main public omic databases and knowledge base </li></ul><ul><li>Experience with genomic and NGS data, including analysis pipelines in R or Python. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with Scrum Agile principles. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with GitLab or other version control systems. </li></ul><ul><li>Understanding of cloud computing environments. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience working in a remote, globally distributed team. </li></ul><ul><li>A scientific or engineering mindset, with a commitment to knowledge sharing, collaboration, and attention to detail.  </li></ul> We are looking for someone with a scientific/engineer mindset, who is an advocate of knowledge sharing and reuse of information, who identifies opportunities, collaborates easily, and pays attention to details.  Further informationClose date: 01/01/2026 </div>
