As a Chemical Process Engineer/Senior Chemical Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in industrialising Samsara Eco’s enzymatic plastics recycling technologies, bridging laboratory innovation and reliable industrial operation.  Initially, this role will be strongly operations-focused, supporting commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and stabilisation of new processes and equipment as Samsara scales from pilot to demonstration and early commercial facilities. Over time, as operations mature, the role will evolve toward a Process Technology leadership focus, emphasising process optimisation, design standards, and technology development for future deployments.  Working closely with Science, Projects, and Operations teams, and reporting to the Director of Site Operations, you will ensure that novel enzymatic processes are translated into robust, safe, and scalable industrial designs.  Operations, Commissioning &amp; Start-up (Initial Focus) <ul><li>Play a hands-on role in commissioning, start-up, and ramp-up of new processes and equipment, including troubleshooting process, mechanical, and control issues. </li></ul><ul><li>Support readiness-to-operate activities, including operating procedures, alarm and trip schedules, and handover to Operations. </li></ul><ul><li>Act as a technical escalation point during early operations, diagnosing performance issues and driving corrective actions. </li></ul><ul><li>Capture operational learnings and systematically feed them back into process design, models, and standards. </li></ul><ul><li>Work closely with site teams to stabilise batch and continuous operations and improve process reliability, throughput, and yield. </li></ul> Process Design, Modelling &amp; Scale-up <ul><li>Develop, maintain, and interrogate process models (e.g. Aspen) to support scale-up, optimisation, energy efficiency, and life-cycle analysis (LCA). </li></ul><ul><li>Generate and review heat and mass balances, PFDs, and P&amp;IDs to support project execution and operational readiness. </li></ul><ul><li>Translate enzyme kinetics and behaviour, in collaboration with the Science team, into scalable, operable, and controllable process designs. </li></ul><ul><li>Use batch plant learnings to inform continuous plant simulations and evaluate alternative operating modes and design scenarios. </li></ul><ul><li>Design and execute pilot-scale trials and contribute directly to scale-up decisions and risk mitigation. </li></ul> Engineering &amp; Project Delivery <ul><li>Support the development of Basis of Design, FEED packages, and technical specifications for new and modified equipment. </li></ul><ul><li>Assist with equipment selection, vendor engagement, and evaluation of alternative consumables and their process implications. </li></ul><ul><li>Participate actively in Safety in Design (SID) activities, including design reviews, safety reviews, and HAZOPs. </li></ul><ul><li>Contribute to cost–benefit analyses, trade-off studies, and risk assessments to support capital and technology decisions. </li></ul> About You... <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (required) </li></ul><ul><li>Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., Master's or PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related  </li></ul><ul><li>Chartered status or professional engineering registration (e.g., CEng, RPEQ, or equivalent) is a plus </li></ul><ul><li>Process Design &amp; Optimisation: Expertise in creating and improving chemical processes, including simulation, modelling, and flowsheet development. </li></ul><ul><li>Process Safety &amp; Risk Management: Strong understanding of HAZOPs, risk assessments, compliance with WHS and chemical handling standards. </li></ul><ul><li>Technical Leadership: Ability to mentor junior engineers, lead technical discussions, and influence cross-functional teams. </li></ul><ul><li>Problem-Solving &amp; Critical Thinking: Skilled in identifying issues and developing innovative, practical solutions -especially in novel or uncertain conditions. </li></ul><ul><li>Project &amp; Time Management: Capable of balancing multiple priorities across design, experimentation, and project support. </li></ul><ul><li>Collaboration &amp; Communication: Able to work with R&amp;D, operations, and external stakeholders to translate scientific insights into scalable processes. </li></ul><ul><li>Continuous Learning: Keeps up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies (e.g., enzymatic processes, circular economy), and regulatory changes. </li></ul><ul><li>Proactive mindset, self-motivated, and ability to work independently whilst leading a team. </li></ul><ul><li>Culture &amp; Values Alignment: Demonstrate a strong alignment with our values and mission, actively contributing to a purpose-driven, inclusive, and high-integrity culture. </li><li>Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required. </li></ul> Why Work with us...
