This is an exciting role involving managing the design, development, certification, and testing of the interior of the Joby aircraft. In this position, the individual will have a balanced responsibility of designing components, managing suppliers, system engineering, and certification. This role integrates the incredibly important balance of designing a product for our future customers to enjoy with the rigors of engineering a world-class aircraft. A strong knowledge of metallics, composites, assembly &amp; integration techniques, GD&amp;T, drafting standards and certification test experience are all highly desirable. This is an exciting position for team players who like to create well-balanced products.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Develop concepts and mechanical designs using sound 1st principal engineering principles</li> <li>Cradle to grave design support–everything from conceptual development through design reviews through release and manufacturing support</li> <li>Ensuring seat designs meet all performance and certification requirements</li> <li>Collaboration with engineering and certification teams to incorporate best practices</li> <li>Supply chain management</li> <li>Ability and willingness to work across multi-disciplinary teams ranging from certification system engineering to manufacturing technicians</li> <li>Creation of technical drawings and bill of materials</li> <li>Support of certification process through documentation and testing</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline</li> <li>8 years of work experience in a relevant industry</li> <li>Ability to visualize complex 3D systems</li> <li>Keen eye for detail and willingness to design to strict aerospace standards</li> <li>Ability to select appropriate materials, coatings, and hardware to support design</li> <li>Excellent teamwork and communication skills</li> <li>Proficiency with CAD</li> <li>Experience making engineering drawings and GD&amp;T</li> <li>Familiarity with FEM and hand calculations for structural sizing </li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>M.S/Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline</li> <li>12+ years of work experience in a relevant industry, aerospace knowledge preferred</li> <li>Hands-on experience designing and building parts in Aluminum, titanium, composite, plastic, and foam.</li> <li>Certification experience to FAR Part 23/25/27/29</li> <li>Cabin/interior aerospace design experience</li> <li>Specific certification experience with aircraft seats</li> <li>Experience with Dassault Systemes CATIA Part Design, Generative Shape design and Assembly Design</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $140,500 - $185,000/yr.
