In this role, you will be expected to be a highly qualified mechanical engineer who understands basic electronics as they relate to mechanical instrumentation and consumer and industrial products.</p><h2>You will be responsible for</h2><ul> <li>Designing, building, and executing customized mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests to support product development and failure analysis</li> <li>Conducting experimental testing and data acquisition, field inspections, and engineering analysis</li> <li>Combining scientific principles with creative problem solving to solve a wide variety of technical problems at the interface between the mechanical, electrical, and materials disciplines</li> <li>Interacting with clients, managers, peer engineers, laboratory personnel, and non-technical staff</li></ul><h2>You will have the following skills and qualifications</h2><ul> <li>Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field of Mechanical Engineering, such as Machine Design, Applied Mechanics, Mechatronics, or Mechanics of Materials</li> <li>Knowledge or relevant hands-on experience in consumer or industrial electronics products, such as experience with mechanical, electrical, or thermal tests (specific experience with safety and reliability tests preferred)</li> <li>Knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., metallography, SEM, CT scanning)</li> <li>Familiar with the commonly used metal and non-metal materials in the industry.</li> <li>Familiarity with the design and construction of mechanical testing fixtures and independent capability to design a customized testing fixture and realize it at a minimal cost.</li> <li>Familiarity with stress and force sensing technology (e.g., strain gauges, load cells, and displacement sensors)</li> <li>Understanding of fundamental electrical principles and technologies, including mechatronics systems, electrical motor driving technology, AC-DC power conversion, power adapters, and USB-PD configurations.</li> <li>Experience with electrical fault isolation and circuit analysis is a value-add.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to execute thorough and reliable experimental research methods</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to analyze experimental data and distill relevant conclusions</li> <li>Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and Mandarin Chinese</li> <li>Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute and exercise initiative</li> <li>Potential for technical and project management and team leadership</li> <li>Ability to convey technical information to individuals in engineering, business, legal and related industries </li></ul><p><em>Applicants are encouraged to submit a CV with publications (feel free to include publications that are in review or pending) [not restricted to 1 page].  </em></p><h2>Life @ Exponent</h2><p>To learn more about life at Exponent and our impact, please visit the following links:</p><p>https://www.exponent.com/careers/life-exponent https://www.exponent.com/company/our-impact</p><p> </p><p>Attracting, inspiring, developing, and rewarding exceptional people with diverse backgrounds and expertise are central to our corporate culture.
