SYSO Technologies is seeking a Network Engineer to own and evolve our hybrid cloud infrastructure as we scale our real-time energy management platform. This role is designed for an experienced network professional who can bring order to our existing data center environment while architecting scalable solutions for future growth. You will be responsible for managing our on-premises network infrastructure, AWS cloud networking, and the critical connections between them. This is a hands-on role that requires both strategic thinking and practical execution—you'll document what we have today, identify gaps, and build the robust network foundation we need to support 24/7 operations. We are a Series B startup with a culture built on trust, service, and a commitment to the planet.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Hybrid Network Architecture: Design and implement scalable network patterns across on-premises and AWS environments, including VPC architecture, security groups, routing tables, and hybrid connectivity solutions</li><li>Infrastructure Operations: Maintain and improve enterprise networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, access points) with high availability; diagnose and resolve complex network issues in production with minimal disruption; manage infrastructure using Terraform and automation tools</li><li>Security &amp; Documentation: Implement firewall rules, network segmentation, and security controls; create comprehensive documentation of physical and logical network topology; perform forensic analysis of existing equipment</li><li>Project &amp; Stakeholder Management: Lead network infrastructure projects, manage contractors and external consultants, and serve as the client-facing expert for SYSO networking needs</li></ul>Required Qualifications<ul><li>Experience: 5–10 years of professional network engineering experience. We need someone who can operate autonomously and manage complex infrastructure projects</li><li>Network Fundamentals: Deep expertise in IP addressing/subnetting, VLANs, port aggregation, DNS, DHCP, IPSec VPNs, BGP, and OSPF</li><li>Cloud &amp; Automation: Hands-on experience with AWS networking (VPC design, security groups, routing tables, hybrid connectivity); proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure automation</li><li>Hardware &amp; Operations: Proven track record with enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, and access points in high-availability configurations; experience with Windows Server and Ubuntu Server; proficiency with Wireshark and packet capture analysis; strong troubleshooting abilities for complex network issues</li><li>Collaboration &amp; Communication: Comfortable serving as a second-level on-call responder; excellent interpersonal skills for working with external parties, clients, and cross-functional teams</li></ul>Desired Skills &amp; Experience<ul><li>Certifications: AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty</li><li>Monitoring &amp; Observability: Experience with Datadog, Prometheus, CloudWatch, or Grafana</li><li>Firewall Technologies: Hands-on experience with Fortinet, Palo Alto, or Cisco firewalls</li><li>Virtualization: Experience with VMware or Hyper-V, particularly transitioning from bare metal to virtualized infrastructure</li><li>SCADA Protocols: Familiarity with Modbus, DNP3, OPCUA, or ICCP</li><li>Industry Experience: Background in energy sector, critical infrastructure, or startup environments</li><li>Project Management: Experience managing infrastructure projects and coordinating with external consultants</li></ul>
