Timmons Group is currently looking for a full time Outside Plant Engineer (OSP Engineer) in Richmond, VA..  The OSP Engineer will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support for outside plant network operations and maintenance with a focus on fiber-based systems The candidate should have technical experience in outside plant design and working collaboratively with other departments. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:<ul><li>The engineer will identify, analyze, diagnose, and resolve network issues, as well as coordinate with vendors and other personnel to ensure the successful deployment and maintenance of outside plant networks</li><li>Provide leadership and direction to OSP Engineer resources</li><li>Manage and design hundreds of miles of outside plant for a major network deployment</li><li>Ability to perform low level fiber engineering using GIS technology</li><li>Ability to perform field visits and network verifications</li><li>Experience in high level network design (splice and physical plant), and detailed engineering</li><li>Work with other departments to ensure make ready management, permitting and fielding meet OSP design criteria</li><li>Review permit and construction drawings for engineering integrity</li><li>Be able to review as-built plans and test results</li><li>Ability to work in ArcGIS/Pro, or QGIS environments </li><li>Maintain orderly records and project documents </li><li>Working knowledge of pole line design and fiber construction, both aerial and underground</li><li>Additional duties and responsibilities as needed</li></ul>Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field preferred and/or equivalent work experience.</li><li>2-5 years of relevant experience with OSP underground and aerial telecommunication leading and engineering preferred.</li><li>Understanding of network architecture and supporting equipment.</li><li>Strong understanding of outside plant engineering and construction</li><li>Knowledge of NESC and RUS construction code as it relates to telecommunications rules and regulations </li><li>Experience engineering in a GIS based program</li><li>Knowledge of the permitting requirements across local jurisdiction</li><li>Desktop and field quality control to support final client deliverable</li><li>Strong project management skills with the ability to meet project deadlines </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication</li><li>Valid driver’s license</li></ul>
