Responsibilities:<ul><li>Determine theoretical and practical limitations to sensing specifications through laboratory experimentation and R&amp;D prototype builds.</li><li>Proper design of experiment methodology to support proof of concept and sensor validation including FDA regulated validation practices and relevant consensus standard guidelines for In Vitro Diagnostic Devices.</li><li>Work safely with human sourced clinical samples under biohazard restrictions.</li><li>Perform data analysis with applied statistical analysis on data sets using statistical software packages.</li><li>Support other members of the R&amp;D development team.</li><li>Evaluate new technologies, methods and products to determine viability for commercialization.</li></ul><ul><li>Assure the accuracy, clarity, internal integrity, consistency, and timeliness of all technical information submitted.</li><li>Drive continuous improvements into scientific/engineering/manufacturing processes and policies.</li><li>Provide interpretation, guidance and strategies on technologies and methodologies affecting product approvals, development and continued product compliance.</li><li>Assessing and evaluating new and existing technologies that are opportunities or threats.</li><li>Work closely with relevant cross-functional areas to achieve overall product development success as needed (operations/manufacturing and quality, marketing and sales, customer service, finance, and technical support).</li><li>Assume other activities and responsibilities as directed.</li></ul> Education &amp; Experience Required<ul><li>Minimum MS in Chemistry with 10+ years.</li><li>PhD in Chemistry with 4+ years preferred but not required.</li><li>Exposure to environmental sensing and/or life science technology is a plus.</li><li>Proven ability to deliver new technology/products to the market.</li></ul>Key Skills and Attributes <ul><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Ability to articulate very technical concepts to non-technical team members and ability to mentor others.</li><li>Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.</li><li>Ability to multi-task effectively.</li><li>Capable of using computer-based tools to collect and document project work.</li><li>Familiarity with FDA 510(k) clinical validation studies and prior experience with human blood product handling.</li><li>Experience with Blood Bourne Pathogen sample handling practices.</li><li>Ability to work with a cross-functional R&amp;D/Engineering team.</li><li>Ability to work in a product development environment operating under project schedules and timelines.</li><li>Intimate familiarity with modern spectroscopic tools and methods.</li><li>Good working understanding of statistics using modern software platforms.</li><li>Requires minimal direction, self-starter.</li><li>Good documentation skills/organization.</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to work with a diverse workforce and customer base.</li><li>Ensures compliance with Company's and regulatory policies and procedures.</li></ul>Working Condition: <ul><li>Minimum 8 hours/day</li><li>5% travel</li><li>General office/laboratory environment.  This role is local and on-site at our offices in Yellow Springs, Ohio, however some work may be able to be carried out in Hybrid fashion with Manager of the Chemistry Group approval.</li></ul>Join the global Xylem team to be a part of innovative technology solutions transforming water usage, conservation, and re-use.
