Field Service Superintendent - Energy Power Plant

We are always on the lookout for future-oriented talent – want to join the ride?  We are now looking for a Field Service Superintendent – (Energy) to join our team working for a better future. The position is permanent, and the preferred location is United States (remote / home-based).  What will you be doing?  As a Field Service Superintendent – Energy, you will lead and execute complex mechanical field service activities according to the agreed work plan. This includes major repairs, overhauls, and troubleshooting of reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE) and their auxiliary systems at customer power plants.You will act as the senior technical authority on-site, taking ownership of mechanical execution, technical decision-making, and customer-facing discussions. In addition, you will support New Build and Commissioning teams, contribute to technical reporting and analysis, and ensure that all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with Wärtsilä quality standards. This position reports to the Field Service Coordinator – Energy.  Responsibilities:  <ul><li>Lead and execute major mechanical overhauls, including full engine disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of 4‑stroke reciprocating engines and auxiliary equipment.</li><li>Perform complex and advanced troubleshooting of mechanical and operational issues at customer power plants, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.</li><li>Act as Superintendent for complex service projects, leading on-site execution and coordinating Service Engineers, Technicians, and other field resources.</li><li>Serve as the main technical point of contact for customers during service execution, leading technical discussions and managing expectations.</li><li>Prepare detailed Service Work Reports, including findings, analysis, conclusions, and technical recommendations.</li><li>Provide internal and external progress updates on assigned work and follow up on work order status.</li><li>Support New Build and Commissioning activities as required, ensuring smooth transition from installation to operation.</li><li>Ensure all work is executed in compliance with Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) guidelines and customer site procedures.</li><li>Proactively identify improvement opportunities and apply best practices to enhance service execution.</li><li>Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.</li></ul>  To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: <ul><li>A safety-first mindset and strong commitment to QHSE standards.</li><li>BSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.</li><li>Extensive experience in power generation field service, particularly with reciprocating engines.</li><li>Proven hands-on experience with engine overhauls and major mechanical repairs.</li><li>Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in complex mechanical environments.</li><li>A systematic way of working with good organizational and documentation skills.</li><li>Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers.</li><li>Good command of English, both oral and written.</li><li>Willingness to work overtime and travel extensively as required.</li></ul>  As an ideal candidate, we expect you to have: <ul><li>High integrity and accountability.</li><li>Strong customer focus and ownership mindset.</li><li>Proven leadership experience in the field (Superintendent, Senior Service Engineer, or similar).</li><li>Experience working with Wärtsilä engines or similar large-bore engine platforms.</li><li>Ability to lead and influence individuals from different cultural and professional backgrounds.</li><li>Strong organizational and prioritization skills.</li><li>A team-player mindset with the confidence to work independently in remote environments.</li></ul> Physical &amp; Mental / Reasoning Demands: These are the physical and mental requirements of the position as it is typically performed:<ul><li>Vision: Close; Distance; Depth.</li><li>Color perception (Red, Green, Amber).</li><li>Hearing / Listening.</li><li>Clear speech.</li><li>Manual dexterity (hand and finger).</li><li>Ability to mount and dismount equipment or vehicles.</li><li>Pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.</li><li>Lifting up to 45 pounds, multiple times per shift.</li><li>Carrying up to 25 pounds, multiple times per shift.</li><li>Driving (local and long-distance).</li><li>Ability to stand, bend, squat, and sit for prolonged periods.</li><li>Climbing and maintaining balance.</li></ul> Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:<ul><li>Works alone and with others.</li><li>Face-to-face and verbal contact with others.</li><li>Indoor and outdoor environments.</li><li>Exposure to extreme heat and cold.</li><li>Noise and vibration.</li><li>Mechanical equipment and moving objects.</li><li>Pressurized systems.</li><li>High places.</li><li>Fumes, odors, dust, and hazardous materials.</li></ul> Travel Requirements: This position requires approximately 85% travel, including domestic and occasional international assignments to customer power plants. Extended periods away from the primary residence should be expected. Travel flexibility is an essential requirement of this role. Successful applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Candidates for regular U.S. and Puerto Rico positions must be a U.S. citizen, national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee, or asylee with valid work authorization. Individuals holding or requiring sponsorship for temporary visas such as E, F‑1, H‑1, H‑1B, H‑2, L, B, J, or TN, now or in the future, are not eligible for hire. For applicants that reside in CA/WA/NY/CO, the hourly wage range is 43/h -63/h. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year.
